The Chamber of Pop Culture and The Killing For Company present :

HERE by Jim Hollands ( UK, 70 mins )

Screening August 9th 2007
Doors 7.30pm
Screening 8.45pm

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the murder of UK playwright Joe Orton by a hammer to the head from his lover Kenneth Halliwell, The Horse Hospital is proud to present a world preview screening of Jim Hollands' latest video work, 'Here'.

'Here' is a 70 minute remix of a rarely seen existing work written by Joe Orton, called The Erpingham Camp. It was originally screened on TV in 1966. It has been experimentally remixed in sound, image and words, with subtitles, and is partly in anaglyphic ( red/cyan ) 3D. Large parts of the work operate under flicker frequencies of 8-13hz, and as such are viewable by epileptics or those prone to seizure at their own risk, and is best watched whilst under an influence. Hammers are optional.

Jim Hollands is an established filmmaker, sound artist and programmer who was the resident curator of a major avant-garde centre in London, The Horse Hospital, for five years. Following this screening the work is part of a residency at http://nod.roxy.cz/ Prague, from 24-29th August.

Congrats on finishing this!... I really wish I could make it.

My parents will actually be in London around that time, I should recommend they check it out. :) ;)

Thanks Chris, don't tell anyone but not finished yet, still doing it, I never grew out of not doing my homework til the night before it was meant to be handed in!

Whereabouts are you? I'm kinda hoping to tour it around. Tell your parents to come say hi! :)

LOL. I know how it is. I'm probably putting off something important as we speak!

I'm in Orange County, California at the moment, but I'm moving to Long Beach pretty soon, which is only about 15 minutes from Los Angeles. Def hit me up if you make it out!

BTW I might know a few people in LA or Long Beach who can set up showings, I'll look into it...

judging by the film's alarming nature there may be more than a few stressed expressions!

i'm looking forward to sampling the hospital's charm too.. love these old buildings, particularly around bloomsbury - so rich in heritage.. can't beat the sense of history you get round there.

It's not too alarming, i just really like watching fast moving/flickering imagery, but I'm aware that it sends some people nutzoid. We got a doctor on site with valium suppositories just in case, i don't want deaths at the first screening, y'know? maybe the second or third.

the problem with any labour of love is the cost of a healthy balanced lifestyle.. left to my own devices all i'd do is blaze and study/work on music.. however, i know from experience the net result is depression as gaping voids start to open in other areas!
