Lidl for candles and parmesan.

Everything you need for a romantic cheese dinner. You'll need to blag a light, though.

It probably goes without saying, but I will add to this list the indisputable classic: the 40 ounce of malt liquor.

Whatever you do though, don't drink Tesco's brand vodka. Better to drink aftershave.

basics butter!!! nothing else!

although someone had a go at me because apparently all the chemicals collect at the edges of the churn or something so you should buy high quality fats. fuck that. it costs half the price.

nah i reckon with both butter and canned toms its worth paying that bit extra. especially with chopped tomatoes, they taste far better and tends to be less watery.

basic own brand cereal tends to be reliable. not much to go wrong really. im sure there are connoisseurs somewhere though

The general rule I follow is that the more processing is involved with a product, the better it is to go for the more expensive brand.

Although Sainsbury basic tomato ketchup is pretty good (if you like it sweet)

the really cheap avocados i find are just as good as expensive ones, just have to leave them to ripen for a day or so.

Tesco's whiskey, don't, Tesco's Bourbon, do. I mean, if Motley Crue came over I'd obviously nip to the cornershop for some JD but otherwise it's just paying for the brand maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Generally though, don't try saving on booze, unless it's those little supermarket beers, which usually rock.

depends what youre using chopped toms for, in curry theyre absolutely fine.

sure but then with the slightly more expensive ones, you just use less toms and a bit more stock. same relative amount of tomato but less % of the can, save more for later

i normally cant tell the difference between cheap and expensive chick peas

I'm lucky enough to have a big market neighbourhood down the road from me, which means I can buy quality AND pay less than a supermarket. Buy meat from the butcher, cheese from the cheese shop, fruit and veg. from the stands, fish from the fish monger, bread from the baker, etc.

Supermarkets rip you off so hard on meat and cheese, it's unreasonable.

best to soak your own, leave em overnight, rinse and use. they'll have a less powdery texture and more value for money.
