MURCOF

Murcof is the recording alias of Mexican native Fernando Corona, a highly respected composer of contemporary classical and electronica for the Leaf and Blue Note imprints. As both a solo performer and a member of the Tijuana based Nortec collective as Terrestre, Corona has put Mexico on the sonic map with a sparse and considered, but often opulent and complex fusion of modern electronica with traditional classical structures. His most recent work ‘The Versailles Sessions’ incorporates Baroque instrumentation with microscopic electro-acoustics for an overwhelming rich listening experience.

Also featuring a major new commission by AntiVJ. AntiVJ is a European visual label of visual projection artists who work on 3D shapes and volumes instead of screens. Murcof and AntiVJ are collaborating on a new site-specific audiovisual installation in which live music, projected imagery, and a huge layered, semi-transparent installation will create immersion in a broken, multifaceted cosmos of a million stars and abstract shapes

JOHANN JOHANNSSON

The multi-talented Jóhann Jóhannsson is a hugely respected member of the Icelandic art and music scenes. Working as a part of the Kitchen Motors collective in Reykjavik, he has collaborated with a range of artists from Pan Sonic and Hafler Trio to Barry Adamson and Marc Almond to cover the spectrum of experimental music with a cinematic and emotionally stirring aesthetic, drawing comparisons to the music of Arvo Part or Bernard Herrmann.

DENIS JONES

Local folktronica hero Denis Jones is a cherished member of Manchester’s electronica vanguard. Denis plays a uniquely textured blend of rhythmical future-folk, drawing inspiration from a wide range of traditional, song-based music and inventively blending these influences with modest experimental electronics. Whilst striving to maintain a song writing philosophy that generates a pure emotional response, Denis never overcomplicates this process and, even with the technical appeal of the live performance, he remains true to the initial drive of emotive creativity.
