even though it's become more prevalent i still feel some basic affinity with people with anime avatars. it instantly conveys that they're an internet-dwelling loser like me. if they vaguely gesture at "intellectual" stuff as well (like half the people i follow on twitter) i assume we're from even more similar backgrounds.

obviously excluding the ones who have really famous anime characters as their avatars. that's more to do with awful mainstream "geek" culture which is completely different.

someone kindly recommended Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! and I concur, it's brilliant. it's an anime TV series about breaking into anime, at least that's what it appears to be after being 5 episodes in.
