this thread really is just about establishing how far london has been ahead of the game over the last few years... just to really demonstrate with the overwhelming weight of evidence how no other city can hold a candle to it, not even nearly, where could you say with any conviction? really? nowhere, not a chance.... maybe it's losing it now, who knows.... doubt it...

you'll get no argument from me there luka!

certainly within that 90>>> now timeframe

it's a 15 year plus run of running tings quite unparalleled in the annals of etc-- EXCEPT for Kingston, like the man said (indeed their run would probably be circa 1960 to circa 2000, or even later).

mind you didn't New York with specifically rap have a good long stretch late 70s to .... mid-90s? longer even.

lets be honest though, roni size had a lot of promise, but nu forms was utter shit. later full cycle output was ropey at best. but nothing to do with bristol, just the general direction of the scene (up its own arse) really.

New forms has a few good tunes on it. its not that bad. Not inspiring but not shit.

The Steve Gurley anthem (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdccX4BJCqc), but they were all wicked really, especially his mix of Hyperfunk.

Dem 2's militant alias (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ay4wodJOXnA&feature=related), after thousands of plays I think this tune is hotwired to my central nervous system.

Tim, Skycap's Endorphins and M Dubz's Body Killing are possibly two of the most sublime records ever, I'm sure you'll agree. Can't find KMA's Cape Fear on here. I worked in a records shop at one point and I remember there were about 15 copies of it left, never took one thinking there'd be one about for me, now they change hands for silly money.

i fell asleep on the way to a squat party a few weekends ago (check out my rave credentials lol) and woke up in hainault. on the journey to the party, i saw the green man interchange and was immediately reminded of this -

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY_a-NdizW0

does anyone know of any hardcore nights in london that aren't ridiculously self consciously "mental-mental chicken oriental" (i'm thinking of bangface here) or just one room in a £20 to get in dnb night?

I always associate these (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ0tb_Tuduk) / three (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80zM7HZMVbU) / tracks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12TBVXKUJ3M&feature=related) together. I guess they must have been released pretty close to each other, and they cemented my ukg fixation.

I only found out the name of this garage classic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZTdfmFs27k&feature=related)last year, after a decade searching for it. I had previously been known to sing the piano riff to anyone who I found to have any knowledge house and garage music. It's lovely to feel the memories of certain times and places flooding back when hearing tunes like this.

this one is my all time favorite hardcore tune. everything about it is
good to me. that synth line, 'hold your hands to heaven', the looney
tunes music samples, 'gonna blow now' fuckery, the drums in general
are raw, the opening lush epic strings.

and here is the b-side... so basically this is the best 12 inch single
i know about. I don't own it. want to.
