this thread really is just about establishing how far london has been ahead of the game over the last few years... just to really demonstrate with the overwhelming weight of evidence how no other city can hold a candle to it, not even nearly, where could you say with any conviction? really? nowhere, not a chance...

Kingston.

This label doesn't get enough props IMO. I guess its down to the happy hardcore connotations:

if detroit can have a myth based on a couple of pleasant burbling techno records why isn't london held in the same awe and reverance?

you'll get no argument from me there luka!

certainly within that 90>>> now timeframe

it's a 15 year plus run of running tings quite unparalleled in the annals of etc-- EXCEPT for Kingston, like the man said (indeed their run would probably be circa 1960 to circa 2000, or even later).

mind you didn't New York with specifically rap have a good long stretch late 70s to .... mid-90s? longer even.

This EP was one of the biggest things to come out in 92 (and thats saying something):

And you cant not mention this:

Its up there with Trip to the moon pt.2 in the anthem stakes. Strange that XL saw fit to re-release 5 versions of this, whilst leaving out the best version!

history is made at night
London Acid City:

OK maybe not the most innovative tune ever, but very much the soundtrack of mid-90s London squat parties and Reclaim the Streets.

oh mate, we could be here all year with this seriously.

And still barely scratch the surface. Speaking of ibiza/3rd party/limited edition:

Love the vocal on this one. They were great for wacky samples:

Funky!

noise factory truly released some bizarre records, didn't they? head mashing avant garde weirdness, straight from some council estate teenagers bedroom.

got to try to drag myself away from youtube soon lol.

haven't heard this one before but its dark as you like tribal london tekno

and so is this. loved the trend for sweeping orchestral b-movie samples.

but this is probably their best known:

theres something about that amen snare sound which is like total aural crack. totally makes your head buzz, the spiky repetition of it.
