did anyone see on prancehall that 'heartbroken' got played on daytime radio 1, by jo whiley of all people?
i myself am amazed that i will actually have no choice but agree with logan on something here..
the heartbroken tune, i would describe as such: .. (bear in mind, my devout-love for bassline)

- a very 'decent' all-around track, in terms of production.
- a nice representation of the whole upfront, vocal side of the niche flavors.
- hmmm, well that's about the only really redeeming things i can think of to say about it..

- certainly not one of the better T2 tracks to date.

- perhaps because of my sometimes over indulging in the whole of the bassline scene, from london to leeds, all the way to nyc..
have i overlooked the sheer value of the exposure to this under-appreciated genre?
- or maybe it's just the fact that i have what seems like a limitless list of tunes which i feel should have received this level of rotation?

its cos its got such a pop hook though surely? melodically i think its incredible.

im relatively new to bassline though, what other tracks would you feel could be getting this kind of rotation? recommendations of good artists labels and mixes would be sick, all i really know is the Northern Line / associated stuff

yeah go on iKoss, what tunes are on the limitless list demanding rotation? :)

i like 'ding dong' (also t2 i think) with some gobby female mc over the top, i forget who. that is a TUNE. it's on dj q's 4x4 cd volume 6.

Why is there so much anti-bassline/Niche snobbery? It seems to have captured all the trashy handbaggishly fun aspects of 2step and combined it with intricately sonically worked-thru bassline design which is often a good deal more pleasing than the wubwub imagination deficit in anthem led dubstep. Whats not to like?? If anything the whole hardcore continuum stuff continues most of all here, rather than in the chinstroking boys club of Dubstep.

Im also new to it, but I got a mix from word the cat which is excellent. Its allready been posted further back, but the best mix ive downloaded so far out of a fair few.

Theres a tune on there, 'dj q - what 2 do', which got 2 very fine ladies dancing when i filled up at esso yesturday. I was really feeling that track.

Is this basically UK's version of booty bass? I have some Dexplicit EPs that I enjoy, and I've been wanting someone to take garage/grime sounds in a more ghettotech type of direction for a while... There was a track by Jon E Cash a while ago called "Ho's Don't Mean Shit" that I hoped spawned imitators, but it's hard to track all this stuff from the states.

is there a good site for keeping up with good/new bassline releases?
or even better, a site that does digital downloads with good content?

i have no problem tracking down tons of mixes, but i'm more interested
in getting some of the great individual tracks that are in the mixes...

alrighty, so i have thrown together a little mix including some of my favorite tunes from mostly 05-06 releases..

(just over one hour)

tried to mixup the representation of different labels that i feel are more influential, and the variety of styles which bassline demonstrates, as well.

just bear in mind, though all my gear has been in storage until prolly 2 months ago.. i know the mixes could use tightening. but hey, i have yet to play out, so my reputation can stand your lashing. but seriously, i am confident the track selection should garner some appreciation...

also i will have a track list up shortly. and i will put together some good linkage for the lot of you to check out as well... ;)

I just dont know
sick mix man feeling the vocal numbers a lot. still dont think any of them have the pop appeal of heartbroken though (not to say 'better' or 'worse' of course), but i can imagine a lot of them getting rinsed on places like galaxy during peak hours

whats really interesting about some of this stuff is the echoes of commercial trance and hard dance... i think it goes some way to explaining some of the london-orientated rejection...

need to get up to sheffield or something

thanks for the kind werds fellas.. i figured that at least some of that had to fare decently with yous'.
and elgato, i guess we would have to agree to disagree on heartbroken.. i am kinda under the impression that your opinion, at least in part, is due to the exposure you have prolly had to that tune?

in fact, im willing to bet that if i list the tunes just in that set alone which are really doing that whole, northern, upfront, more-mainstream, niche kinda vibe. that if you give them comparable play-time. you might change your mind? seems established that with additional listens, any tracks portrayal will change somehow, yea?
sure some of that darker stuff were prolly just never destined to be chart busters.
but so yea, if ya can stand my mixing, lol. give the following tracks a few more listens. then lemme know what ya think...

- Still On It
- Be Without You
- Girl
- Over The Heartache
- More Time
- Circles
- UK Shakedown

also not sure how you rank the importance of original vocals on this particular gauge either? cause i have mixed feelings on this. as i know many fantastic re-works which i cherish much more so than the originals. and yet do feel somehow further indebted to the artist who is working from scratch you know?

also later on i shall list some more tunes from the last few years which i feel are worth checking out to see if they might meet your pop-status standards, lol..

again, thanks for having a listen. :D
