lol, mms is being sarcastic.

But at the heart of this does lie a serious point. That how we perceive Footwork from outside the scene is not how it is perceived within it. And that the music that may be enjoyed and loved by the readers of this thread doesn't necessarily always reflect in any way what is going on in chicago now.

for example, how I hear footwork music is very influenced and informed by my 'knowledge' of grime, jungle and hardcore.

the trax of DJ Roc, DJ Lil Rome, DJ Solo, dj D Man (aka Yung Tellem), DJ Nate, DJ Diamond, DJ Elmoe, DJ KIlla E and DJ Trouble are all valid musical expression, but our love of their music is like:

If jungle had stayed in London and a chicago forum cica 1996 was proclaiming love for obscure jungle 'no-one's' (who i personally love) like Dubtronix or Eze G in fovour of DJ Hype or Grooverider who were 'names' at the time..

I'm glad someone brought up that Chicago Reader article. Reason being, all the tracks there ARE SPINN N RASHAD TRACKS! Those are the tracks people want to hear, and those are the tracks people actively go out to parties to listen to.

And I'll set the record straight right here, those dudes you listed above, Flawlez & Baddmixx are just some people on Electrobounce. Electrobounce has gone to shit because anybody can submit shit, and get it up there, really!

As for Leatherface, Mister Ries, and Kill Frenzy, it's the same type of clubby juke tracks, but they actually sound good. I know Mister Ries personally, his tracks are sick and he's a cool dude, but his tracks are not played in the footwork circuit, and I don't think he ever thought they were either. As for Boylan, I never even heard of that mafucka despite the fact he has a track with Rashad.

Clent and Solo are both legends in the footwork world, as that track that someone posted earlier is hot as fuck!

And now finally, with Nate. I'll say this in the way I should have said this to begin with. Nate quit footworking because he couldn't be seen as nothing more than just a shitty copycat of other people.

If I comment on this board, it's because Nate is the juke version of Rusko, not spinn n rashad. And I want to set that record straight right now.

I know why I take this forum seriously, because I'm deeply involved with this movement, and I want to set the record straight on our history. I have no clue as to why you give this much of a fuck on a musical genre.

Fuck what you heard, and I'm tired of talkin about this dumb shit. When I have the time to upload some tracks that show you Nate ain't shit, I will.

Peace

course you will.

I brought that up to show that you write the same drivel wherever you post.

read it and snore:
'First thing I'll talk about is the scene right now. Currently, nobody nowadays blasts tha Pope, and DJ Nate hasn't made a footwork track in a few years. If you would have asked someone, they would have told you that damn near every track in the videos you posted were either made by DJ Spinn, DJ Rashad, or DJ Earl. If you don't know who they are, DJ Spinn made Bounce N Break Yo Back, Rashad made Juke That w/ Gantman, and Earl is just a new cat who is taking over stuff. More importantly, all these people, including Gantman, is in the Ghetto Teknitianz, a Chicago Footwork/Juke crew, who have brances in the South and West Side of the city.

If you really thinks footwork tracks are made the way you described em, it just means you got all your information on the scene from youtube videos, and not actually coming to any events. If you had come to some events, you would see that the people who make tracks haven't made that type of sound in damn near 3 years! The sound has become much more musical, and a lot of the stuff that's on youtube is just that, stuff on youtube. Because there's been no articles, or research on the subject, very few people can tell what people want to actually listen to, and what is just crappy publicity stuff. Most footwork tracks on youtube are just crap that is online.'

then you slag off the pope and dj nate ad nauseam

So whats your relationship with rashad and spinn are you their manager or their mate?
Are the things you say the things they think about Juke too, i doubt it seriously.

I wrote that on the Chicago Reader post because the guy who wrote that also said this was the future of juke:

And you can not read that article and not be able to somewhat tell the dude did no research. Talkin about soccer players and african dance? Are you fuckin kiddin me?!

This is not drivel, this is me angry because the time this stuff gets any media attention, all the information is gained through pr campaigns. It's partially what has held back our music for so long, and why no one has ever gotten their proper dues. There's no research, there's no effort spent other than looking up youtube videos and looking up tracks through imeem tracks.

As I mentioned in that article, I am a fuckin arab who had no connections to juke culture other than my fascination with it. Since then, I've become friends with members of damn near every footwork crew, be it Footworkingz, 187, Terra Squad, Goon Squad, Creation, etc., and I know the people in most of the Chicago juke/footwork dj crews. I have immersed myself in this culture, and it's fuckin ridiculous when people who get paid to write about this stuff get it wrong. Additionally, there's the people like Bok Bok, Headhunter, and DJ Hilti who have a much better understanding of this culture than most journalists.

I write this much not because I give a fuck about publicity...their records have been sellin for years with or without my words on the subject. It's simply me trying to inform you about the differences of who the fuck actually matters out here, and the old shit no one really wants to listen to anymore.

And yeah, Spinn N Rashad are my friends, because they're the one of the few people left that actually give a shit about the footwork world.

Then again, there's RP Boo, Clent, Roc, Traxman, Slick Rick Da Master.

And if you really wanna get into the old shit before it became even Spinn, Rashad, Clent, etc, search up these tracks:

Dj PJ - Chase ME
DJ Deeon - House-O-Matics
DJ Milton - House-O-Matics
DJ Puncho - Crickets

i've been buying chicago records since 1989 i have the first dance mania releases on vinyl from 1985. I bought those without knowing fuck all about the people who made them and it didn't really matter then, it doesn't matter now, as enjoying music is a subjective experience regardless of individuals intimacy with the scenes.
If some music takes off it's because folk like it, regardless of the way they get to like it. It's interesting that in the comments, Dave Quam thinks the piece is great, sometimes you have to step away from your personal involvement in scenes and let people enjoy it, even if sometimes they don't enjoy the parts you like, you know i'd rather perculator was a big hit rather than the outhere brothers, but i can still appreciate the outhere brothers.

You know this has been going on forever - you know the chat - Jesse Saunders made the first house record never got the recognition, the tracks not that good, there were more popular artists who got recognised blah blah, the outcome of who gets the recognition for their music etc depends on a great deal of factors, but often it's market led, taste led and people will cop all of it as long as it's good and they can get it.

yes, I did comment "nice article" on first read because I was happy to see some press of any kind on the subject of a long-going local culture because there hasn't been a lot at all. In fact using my alumni access to a handful of databases a few months ago looking through old Chicago papers I didn't even find much about house at all, most of the articles I found were from other city papers. Locally here in the city that is very very lame, a lot lamer than the Guardian piece. The writer of that piece has never been to a footworking event which is fine, not a lot of people have and hell most music journalism/blogging is done off the internet nowadays anyways. Miles Raymer was reporting from an actual event for shits sake and bombed that one.

I never said it was GREAT, and in re-reading the article the 2nd time around I was pretty embarrassed to have left that comment, the "African hand movements" part made me cringe. Can't say I care enough to erase it from history, and I also don't mind being wrong now and then (or a lot). Especially on the interwebs. My reputation is ruined.

I also agree it really doesn't matter to the individual who's the "realness" with this music to the individual, they are your ears. And I've said several times in this thread that I enjoy a handful of Elmoe, Nate, Oreo, Killa E, Tha Pope, and a bunch of kids who made some weird footwork and put it on Youtube, which happened to be the way most people discovered the genre who aren't from the south or westsides of Chicago. I'm all for that, and it's obvious these kids looked up to the older guys like Rashad, Clent, RP, Traxman, Gant Man ect. I personally just find the music of the later to be a lot better and less of an "in the moment" (on the internet) kind of thing. I definitely have listened to those kids a ton, I have tons of imeem rips and a few mixtapes even but I listened to Rashad and Clent before them, and I am still listening to them now. Their music just stand out so much more stands the test of time so much better. I was pretty fucking excited the first time I heard Aphex Twin when I was young, but I can't say I've listened to any of his music for like 10 years.

Neema's just trying to educate and provide some information that isn't really there. This is why something like that Reader article and the Guardian one make me cringe. But worse is Rymer's article on BBU, whose music makes me want to kill, but not only that the title of the article is "not just mindless dance music". Ugh.

Also I garanfuckingtee in a mirror universe if it were a bunch of Chicago cats talking about some UK-based scene you were apart of it would be the same reaction. You guys take your music pretty seriously too you know. Also if you came here and realized how terrible the club scene was, how much bullshit you have to deal with to get a gig here, and how broke some of this cities best musicians are, Neema might not come off like a jukenazi.

It's all love though I'm psyched how much attention this stuff is getting, and big ups to the UK. I think people actually might care about music there.

By the way why the LOLZ from a guy who is obviously in his 40s about my DJ Roc comment? He is one of the guys who grew up along with Rashad and Spinn who was also clutch to the music's development. Did you not see my huge list of stuff I like from early Dance Mania till 2010 from before? I think it was pretty clear that I like plenty of DJs and not just Rashad and Spinn. Neema's introduced me to a handful of them too.

I will add one to that list, DJ T RELL. A fucking monster.

I felt like sharing more good stuff with you guys but so many of your are so goddamn retarded and don't want to learn anything about a genre they are so interested that I don't give a shit.

hey, i don't know if anyone posted anything about this, but can you recommend any chicagoan footwork events? i'm definitely going to be in chicagoland at some point this summer, and while last year's juke/footwork mixtape search-out failed miserably due to time constraints, i'd still be really into checking out an event in person. obviously this is way in advance, but yeah. just throwing it out there.

all this chicagoan dj nate hate is really sounding like a personal grudge at this point.

besides, we wouldn't even be focusing so much on him if it weren't for all this controversy.

Your posts there were very reasonable up to this point. No need for that.
