after listening to qutie a bit of rinse last week this stuff is growing on me, in a sort of 'tribute/homage-step' way, its all basically rearrangements of stuff i already know in some form or fashion, doesnt exactly make me think 'what is THAT', but hey, not everything has to. not feeling that tune ory posted though. think id like it more without the brandy sample. seems to be there for some weird sort of R&B cred or something.

Favourite tune on '166 and Rising' anyone? I'm going for Peverelist's effort (I'm a sucker for Peverelist tunes), closely followed by TRG. This will no doubt change in the near future

to go back to the drum programming issue, or beats, as i like to call it... that blawan, are you serious? it sounds like a special kid done it. dont gt me wrong, i like brandy as much as the next man but that is a fucking disgrace.

^^^the correct response.

nothing special imo. and the sample doesnt even have anything anthemic/memorable about how its deployed. its just there. like he though oh shit i want some R&B thing in there and went for brandy cos ramadanman and a couple others have sampled her. i like the bass and some of the acid-y things going on but as a whole its pretty generic when it comes to this kind of thing. like some post-james blake groove chronicles/el-b tribute. sounds like hes not quite there yet as a producer. im thinking this stuff is basically like 'indie' used to be to 'rock'. no wonder so many indie kids are ok with it.

listening to the drums i def was flashing on indie. cos its so inept it almost becomes a featur. i almost felt like i could construct a defence of it that made its ineptness a positive quality, indie pulls that move all th time, its the classic indie judo technique.

you can tell the indie kids have moved in to dubstep when half of these producers being touted as the next great thing all have these huge great scruffy beards like theyve been in the wild half their life.

if you look at all the great london/uk producers of the past 15-odd years, none of them let their facial hair grow very much.

i think appleblim might have been the first to do this.

its good that theyre just being themselves of course and not wanting to appear street/hard/whatever, but it just makes them look like theyre in bloody arcade fire or auditioning for some sort of nature docu or something.

i myself, do admittedly have a beard, but im not a producer so it doesnt matter.

this is true. someone will come up with an exception though. i have to be honest and say, before someone outs me, my beard is very large at the moment but it is inspired by rick ross not bonnie prince billy its well groomed, and i have a gold medallion that depicts my own bearded face in relief. actually the main reason its so long is its verey hard to cut without ending up looking like you escaped from a mental home. i need to pay a proffesional.

mine is more inspired by al pacino in serpico but i am just a dissensus poster, not a producer without a razor hoping to do a mix for websites like factmag in the near future.

pacinos beard is weird in that. it doesnt grow all over his face. its a very handsome beard though. how do you keep yours in trim?

Scratching my head here, there must be some. SoulIISoul?

Not sure if Blawan has jumped ship from indie. Good interview with him here.

God which is worse getting invaded by indie or metal?

yeah pacino is lucky cos his beard seems to stop just above the jawline. its very well kept. my beard is still in that early sort of 'newly homeless' stage. but ive got a nice electric razor with diff gradients now so will be putting it to use in the next few days.

this is the type of travesty im talking about:

so does xxxy, but there's not many more.

if anything the balance is tipped too far towards clean-shaven artists.
