Rave revival?

Free parties have never stopped, the guardian has just started all this rave revival bullshit because of the media coverage of the teknival that went on earlier on this year in cornwall,.
and generally anything that slops out onto the mainstream has been fully digested and turned over into a big pile of sloppy, edible shit.

yup i agree, i know a few peeps at the grauniad and I can confirm that they are a) interesting fun people b) out of touch! , mainly in an age sense. You can almost feel the notion of neo-rave is only interesting to those people who are their readership i.e. people their age who vaguely remember what the first raves were like.

propa post rave see here torment_6th oct'06

...although we've got the Chicago Acid revival coming b4 then - in 2008 it'll be all about the 120bpm 4/4 squelch with zero production levels all over again...and lazer discos will be the cutting edge again - and a 'no trainers, jeans or sportsware policy' at clubs again. can't wait!!:)

i think its already happening.

i see tons of new acid and acid house records comin out constantly.

and, so many chicago djs that used to put "deep house" or "disco house" under their names on flyers are goin with "deep/acid house".

electro djs are now "acid electro" and techno "acid techno" or just "acid".

im excited about the new acid explosion, but..... wheres the actual acid?

hmm.... 2 scenes i avoid like the plague.

unless you count the recent Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus tours of the US.

but then, i swore off "reunion" tours after that as well.

50 year olds should NOT wear leather pants. someone tell keith richards.

acids just around isn't it, never really went around, trax represses are quite widely avaliable, old acid comps too. afx's analord etc. it's doesn't really need reviving it's part of dance's makeup generally.

new rave seems to have a dress code, i see new ravers in shoreditch and they're so stylish and identifyable it's not true, patterned hoodied tops, loony big coloured sunglasses, tight black jeans, squiffy haircuts and boxing boots.

new rave has no actual rave bits in it though, the bits which are closest are the french touch stuff which has been adopted and dfa type retro disco stuff which has also been adopted, the other bits are just bands, singing songs, some of the bands wear raveyish garb and maybe have drum machines.
it's part of nme's interests to promote new scenes with guitars involved as they thrive on that, they peak at those times sales wise so to invent a continuity which attaches rave to it is a good plan i think. Even though it's bunkum.

in this sense... rave cant be 'revived' either.

raving, here, never stopped. promoters never stopped throwing them and people never stopped going.

it has, however, gone through several different phases of life. from illegal underground warehouses in the 80s to the massives in convention centers in the 90s, and now lofts and 'semilegal' venues where the landlords are paid, but rarely have a license. raving is changing, but the one thing that keeps it going is not just drugs, but underage kids want to go out and dance and hear djs. for kids under 21, thee jsut arent many social options, especially when you listen to electronic music.

i think if anyone here tried any sort of 'rave-revival' it would have to be going back to breaking into warehouses. just, now, the stakes are higher with anti-rave laws meaning even the DJs can be fined.

The idea of a mutated strain of post grime/dubstep as zero-option electro-primitive psychedelia (crack cocaine psychedelics all inwardly biting rhythms chasing themselves into nowhere, riding obscene necrotic sub bass flows) is sounding interesting. I bet you 100% it does not exist yet. New Rave as far as the scene goes (apart from still-continuing actual rave) is just indie with different clothes. NEXT!

yes that does sound likely.
more likely than a fabricated rave revival, it is interesting from a strange angle watching nme try and create this though, opening a club, organsing the klaxons etc on tour, pushing it like new labour..

Its what they DO tho isn't it, that endless pushing on, even when it no longer has any meaning. The NME is pure cultural deathdrive now, all zombie innovation through endless simulations and reconstructions, all through the preferred IPC Media boys-with-guitars method (as sponsored by Shockwaves HairGel TM and Carling Beer TM).

gek: It's Rock 'n' Roll Lite sponsored by Virgin Mobile, someone should do an indie version of Spinal Tap.

yeah, it's all bit "guilty pleasures" innit?

Though to be fair we're just guessing as to the promoters & punters intentions.

Just thinking, one upshot of this could be a ton of techno, house and breaks producers all claiming to be "nu-rave". I hope no body I listen to tries this on.

I find it difficult to believe that there will be any takers for this thing. Surely the kids who want to get off their faces in a field/abandoned mansion and listen to acidic repetitive squelching will continue to do so, and this indie-scenester nano-cult will die an early death?
