It’s classic aphex with nothing new. Gorgeous melodies, drums are phenomenal. His harmonic hums walking the line between bored, angelic and taking this piss - what’s not to love

but he's done it dozens of times before.

saw a demo of something similar (genetic algorithms learning how to recreate given audio with twiddling with tx7 parameeters) apparently used by aphex, fun it's a widely accessible technique now

Apologies if anyone already posted this, but I thought this was a really cool album cover. Haven't listened to it yet.

I think 'his' visuals are more interesting than his music nowadays.

Although they did play one of his new ones on NTS earlier and it grew on me.

Instantly recognisable as him which is a strength but also makes you think oh another one of these.

The same guy does all their visuals?

It's intriguing to me cos Aphex's music doesn't sound like it's evolved much since the 90s but visuals have evolved and in a way they've caught up with his music

the computer-malleability of sound has caught up with what aphex twin was doing in the 90s I think. in a way coz of his technical skills he was able to access all of that before the general public

Thats well put - it’s the long 90s, realising the dream. Analaord was beautiful beautiful stuff and also quite a conscious retro turn. And yes it does grate when repeatedly pitched as futuristic dance music, although there is a lot that’s still strange and jarring in there , much can seem quaint too, but I go back every time for the beauty snd haunting melodies, not many people come close

I did a really good post years ago about the melancholic abstract interpretation of sexual dance music from the outside

kind of weird that you randomly bumped this thread with a post that sounds like a reply to someone but good comments regardless
