Yeah, I assumed as much. I wouldn't downplay your fears in that respect, Russia does pose a threat to its neighbours - particularly the baltic states, but this does not mean that the red army is poised to sweep across Europe, and then the globe.
I mean, if I came from a country that had been the subject of occupation by a brutal, bloodthirsty nuclear armed neighbouring colonial power that is currently involved in a genocidal war in total contravention of international law id be worried as well... oh wait, hang on, lol.

I think Putin is deluded, but I don't think he's insane or suicidal. He surely understands that a nuclear attack on a NATO state would mean the end of Russia and the end of him.

Again, I get your point, but I must say that Russian irrationality is a thing, you should only read Dostoyevsky or Gogol - that has never ever gone away, be certain. An the there are statements like these, which shouldn't be taken lightly - in case of Russians, sadly, is just not an rhetorical flourish:

As I understand, you are from the beyond the Pale; again - I get your point of view, but I must also say that Ireland as a country is sort of a parasite who only wants to reap all the benefits of saftey while giving nothing in return. There is no 'neutrality' in that sense.

I see myself more as a 'callers voice in the desert' when it comes to these things; if there's something that's gonna undermine us it will be Western naivety concerning all things Russian.

The EU just announced its 13th round of sanctions against Russia. The entire Western military, cultural and political sectors are vociferously anti-Russian. You're not a voice in the wilderness, you're a single drop in a torrent of demented, apocalyptic propaganda.

but where do you stand then? on which axis? or do irish people have some epistemologically uniqe point of view which cannot be accesed by anyone else?

You're the one wishing on the apocalypse, lets hope you dont reap what you sow.
Then we'd better hope your ceasefire, should it ever happen and involve ceding a large chunk of Ukraine to Russia, doesn't just encourage Putin to assume that Poland and the Baltic states are up for grabs and have a go at them next. Because they're NATO member states, so that really would initiate an actual, hot NATO-Russia conflict.

Yeah, with the arguably insignificant exception of the man most likely to be the next US president and most of the party he leads.

In the real world, in which Russia failed in all of its war aims and has demonstrated that it is incapable of winning a proxy war with NATO, yet alone sweeping across Europe and conquering all in its path - regardless of the Messianic ambitions supposedly held by its leader - and in which the most significant threat to Ukraine right now comes not from the east, but from the upcoming US election, which is why the inevitable ceasefire should take place as soon as possible.

Because Putin is definitely the kind of straightforward, trustworthy guy who could be relied on to honour a ceasefire for all time.

oh come that's not true, lots of pro Russian sentiment - looks at pretty much all of Germany's establishment up to the invasion.
