padraig (u.s.)

a monkey that will go ape
Joy Division: Band that should've sacked the singer before he went and killed himself to begin with.

leaving aside the rather shitty callousness of the statement, that is still clearly the wrongest thing anyone has ever said in the history of people being wrong about things. seriously tho, it's not even kinda true. not even a little bit. Ian Curtis had a fantastic voice. & loads of weird anti-charisma to boot. JD have roughly x100000 times the chops of any of the hordes of cookie-cutter early 00s over-hyped shite indie bands who copped their style. the sum of every piece of music Interpol has put out is inferior, by a wide margin, to a single Peter Hook bassline.

so.

Never a truer word, padraig.

Ian Curtis justifies the use of the word stentorian. No-one else could have sung those lyrics. One of those things that just works.

yep, very true. Transmission is one of the very best things I have ever heard over club speakers...at Plastic People, so all the better :)

His vocals kind of make the tune too. I don't know how anyone can say a ripoff is better than the original in any case - even if you personally like some of their stuff more, it's not the same thing.
