as a cultural event/effect i gotta say i think the whole hauntology "specters of marx" thing makes much more sense as "specters of the counterculture"

that's to say a coming to terms with the failure of that countercultural psychic project to build a bridge into space - the promise of that era's dream of higher ethics and progressive communities.

surely that's what "boards of canada" (shades of osmond at saskwatchean) was about - less about socialist state models than remembering how the hippy dream impacted the state.

the whole "stone tapes" thing again more to do with how jungian/transpersonal ideas entered the mainstream... and spooked it.

some of the ladybirds, there's the odd very scary one. there's an aesop's fable one where a cat tricks a bird and kills and eats it, and it's all very gruesome/visceral. i can remember those drawings in my minds eyes now

There's something very subtly disturbing about these black men with bright blue eyes, isn't there?
yeah although they are white/glazed over no? like bran in game of thrones. it's also the realism of the torsos and muscular definition. very 'real'

you mean the dream towards a heaven failed so it rebounded into a dream about hell/ghosts?

no the whole ghosts thing - just like the UFO thing - is a psychic event - just as the heavenly sentiments of the rock scene were a psychic event. both psychotic/manic aspects of it were differently prismatised reflections of the same "etheric" drift OUT away from the ground.

something like black sabbath's "paranoid" is essentially just the same as something blissfull like "strawberry fields forever" - the bliss/distresss axis is one axis and the etheric/integral axis is another.

so you mean hauntology is no different/same sort of continuum to 'paranoid' etc, ie its the same sort of current of thought?

This is my understanding of it too. There always has been the political project though, and it's footsoldiers. The raised fists etc.

is that you with the eastpak bag luke? bit indie kid looking there ;)

It's actually very interesting how terrible we looked then. It was pre Facebook. A kind of nadir. When Mark died I looked at the pictures and we all look hideous, gruesome.

i found out that apparently that's the cutting edge of psychiatric thinking nowadays too.

in the bipolar model the bliss state has always been bound to the etheric state - and on the other hand the state of distress to the etheric.

but the new thinking is that there are two separate axes. you can be up/out and in distress (obviously)! 😂

to my way of thinking the political model is more confused which is why extreme left and right often have sympathies.
