oasis were quite popular in the 90s. i like the singles best but im sure there obscure album tracks and b sides that would be worth exploring. i'll go on youtube and post some of my favourites.

this is wonderwall. even if you never heard the original you may well recognise the song as it is popular with buskers throughout the english speaking world. oasis stood out in the world of guitar music as liam had a reasonably good voice, comparatively speaking.

this song is entitled whats the story morning glory. it has a good intro, reminiscent of Apocalypse now. it is liams best vocal performance. its a particularly rousing song.

this song is a highlight from their inferior debut release. it has a good chorus. im feeling supersonic give me gin and tonic you can have it all but how much do you want it.
generally this album is quite flat sounding. it lacks the dynamics of their sophomore effort, whats the story morning glory.

this is also from thier debut. its the best song on the album, it is entitled slide away. it is quite affecting if you are willing to submit to it.

when i was a teenager there were a few really excellent, big(ish) indies that put out 'buy on sight' guitar music - dischord, touch and go, may be Chemikal Underground.

I guess some of those are still going. But are there equivalent new labels? i don't mean people putting out noise stuff - but rather, truly 'alternative' rock music.

I suppose this is also kind of nearly self-promotion, but friend of a friend runs this mean label up in Auckland called Muzai:

Wilberforces are brill, and Kitsunegari are quite neat.

Maybe it is more on the noise end of 'alternative' rock though.

heh. interesting, I actually thought you were taking the piss with Oasis...
My bad. I was badly damaged by/developed an unhealthy hate-relationship w brit pop in the 80s/90s...

this is guitar music from new zealand..... it is very famous. in new zealand. its very good.

Here's another famous Kiwi... I haven't heard about him until I moved here... then again, he was big-ish in my guitar-less period...

Darcy Clay - Jesus I Was Evil

Darcy Clay - Jolene

Darned cockwombles.
I liked that list too. On 'Endless Summer', is that a sample from Bark Psychosis 'I Know'? Must be, only just noticed it....kinda makes the song...

Oh wow, that never occurred to me. Two of my favourite artists!

But no, I don't think it's a sample. If you hear a guitar on a Fennesz record, it's probably him playing it.

Yes, I don't know why I completely forgot about those old Dunedin bands Luka.

The Chills are brilliant.

HDU are immense and amazing guitar music:

This may be one of the greatest piecses of music ever.

This is very good too:

I will also list some other very good bands:

The Clean
The Subliminals
The Bats
The Dead C (pretty much noise though)
Look Blue Go Purple
That band who did Beard of Bees
Jean-Paul Sartre Experience
Alistair Galbraith
Dadamah
Flies inside the Sun

Basically you just need to get some Flying Nun compilations and run from there.

Trust me it is well worth it.

Here is a Subliminals video:

WEll they stopped in like hte mid 90's or something. Then dude restarted last year or something?

Bands like HDU and King Loser were rad, but all the ones signed in the last few years (except Sharpie Crows) are shit.

If you liked that Hype Williams one why not check out the original

Or even go back to the source

There's loads of good surf stuff in that kind of vein - or, if you prefer a bit sillier, go for what's called tittyshaker sound.
