What to say about these 3 labels and their label-heads? There was a moment at the end of last year and beginning of this year where all of these guys were shooting out so much fire it seemed like the darkside sound was going to go forever. The fact that these 3 labels all stopped or seriously, seriously slowed down during the year has been a massive loss to the scene. As has, to be honest, Hugo's moving to XL. I mean, big up and massive respect to Hugo for reaching that level pushing his own sound - and obviously the XL EP's a fucking monster - but him quieting up and focussing on 'quality not quantity' has real drained the lifeblood of the harder edge of the sound...

Hugo Massien - Matter Of Fact
Marcellus Wallace & That Guy - Heavyweight
Nightshift - Terminate
Nightshift - Do Not Be Alarmed
Shenin Amara & AR - I’m In Need
Shenin Amara & AR - Your Girlfriend
Hugo Massien - Madhouse
Hugo Massien ft. Blazey - Badman/Pump It Up

Harry Ley - LMTYS

Louie Anderson - Cops & Crack

Paper Plates - Slow but steady this year, still love nearly everything RS4 puts out.
Lokate - Entire System/Strobe Light
RS4 - Wanna Dance
RS4 - Tell Me/House Is Freedom
RS4 & Lombardo - Signs

Go on then go on then - you seem well qualified :D

Gonna have to check Datwun's humungous list. How much more interesting a list from a genre enthusiast is than the generic EOY lists you find in magazines that praise the same 30 or so albums. (as great as many of those albums are.)

Was gonna start a separate thread about OVERRATED/UNDERRATED OF THE YEAR to start some sort of fight but maybe we can keep this in here?

I look at the end of the year lists and see the artifical barriers people create do differentiate between what has value and what doesn't, and the walls people build around themselves and their musical tastes. Mixmag had a list with nineties fossils like The Prodigy and Chemical Brothers, Rolling Stone trots out the seventies and eighties rock stars every year and tells people they are better than the acts of today. I don't see how a person with broad tastes can deny acts like Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Taylor Swift or Adele.

Don't really have a horse in the race, and of course the end of year list is often a huge statement of personal taste - but does apathy count as denial?

How about an ATROCITIES OF THE YEAR? This has to be close to the top. Visually if nothing else.
