Christopher Nolan, M Night Shamalan, David Fincher, Charlie Kaufman, darren aronfronsky ; the odd film like shutter island, donnie darko, the machinist, the illusionist, mullholand drive. Im sure theres more.

The aughts era 'mindfuck' obsession. Even better if it had a twist. A bit to do with some of the most revered 90's flicks doing a similar thing- pulp fiction, the matrix, se7en, usual suspects and etc. And of course almost all the mentioned directors got a 90s start.

Alley—played by Andy Serkis, who is Gollum in the LotR adaptation—is the one who mentions Angier's trick of guessing what's inside pockets. Cut to The Hobbit; Gollum is trying to guess Bilbo's riddle: "What has he got in his pocketses, anyway?"
