i remember limburger claiming this macho aesthetic crystallised quite late in your life. he said before you were more arty.

I think what kicked it off was discovering Paul Schrader's stuff which led to Ferrara who I'd basically forgotten about after only seeing Bad Lieutenant and King of New York in my teens. That and the fact you can now get a bunch of these films in good quality because of the boutique Blu-ray companies that have popped up.

versioncore for me isn't just the credible films it's also a certain kind of cringeworthy crap (hence 'post stuff version will love').

He's done much to shape my sense of humour in recent years. An unsung hero.
