Yes the next Adam Curtis will be a messageboard archaeologist, and it could very well be our own version.

i remember limburger claiming this macho aesthetic crystallised quite late in your life. he said before you were more arty.

I think what kicked it off was discovering Paul Schrader's stuff which led to Ferrara who I'd basically forgotten about after only seeing Bad Lieutenant and King of New York in my teens. That and the fact you can now get a bunch of these films in good quality because of the boutique Blu-ray companies that have popped up.

They're good because they're entertaining and pulpy but they also look and sound really nice.

i come back to coltrane/davis a lot and tend to view it as transcendence/immanence. i think a lot about wiley/dizzee too. such different careers. one inwardly directed the other outwardly oriented. needless to say i relate to wiley. do you form these dyads in your head too? got any examples?

Feel like it's not unlikely that Curtis has lurked on here in the past. The Burial thing. Must have been interested in K Punk. Now taking notes from Neon Dreams.

versioncore for me isn't just the credible films it's also a certain kind of cringeworthy crap (hence 'post stuff version will love').

He's done much to shape my sense of humour in recent years. An unsung hero.
