I remember that Coventry free-kick (well obviously not from the time, I'm not that old) and I understand that afterwards there was a lot of debate about whether the referee should have allowed it. To my mind the guy who takes it touches it with both feet so that's two touches before anyone else which is obviously against the rules - hence there was no rash of copycat goals or attempts. The other one only uses one foot so maybe that's ok - I mean, he kind of scoops it in a long continuous touch which some people might not like but I don't think anyone would complain if someone took a free-kick like that at any other part of the pitch.
Edit - actually having watched it again I think they would. He lifts it right up off the ground before flicking it over his head, surely not allowed.

Pretty sure that move was banned - probably in response to that goal, if not some time later. The Asian one posted below shouldn't have stood.

Yep - spoilsport. But someone has to stand up for the rule of football law or we'll just have anarchy. Possibly with lots of brilliant goals.
Whatever happened to that guy who used to balance the ball on his head like a seal?

Curious use of 'if' in the opening paragraph.

What happened to Weds? Everyone assumed they were rivals this season. Now they're not even also-rans.

I'm not sure if you're talking about Sheffield Weds, but I will talk about themn anyway. Bloody shower - 4-1 vs Peterboro...ffs. Every time I think about upping my supoport levels of them (followed them rabidly for around 12-15 years), this kind of thing happens. Lose, but lose with dignity.

No shame in shipping 4 against Peterborough - that's about their average per game ;) - but you should be ashamed of not putting at least 3 past them

Really interesting draw, IMO, probably cos 3 of those teams are relative (or total) strangers to this pat of the CL. Real v Spurs tie of the round, no question, with winners to play Barcelona (or Shakhtar). Chelsea v Man U could be stultifying, could be amazing.

1115: Inter Milan v Schalke 04
1114: Barcelona v Shakhtar Donetsk
1114: CHELSEA v MAN UTD
1113: Real Madrid v TOTTENHAM

Pop quiz: who had the following sage advice on fair play for Balotelli?
"He is a young boy of 20 and he has to learn from his mistakes. I told him. Everyone told him. He is still part of the squad and has a lot of potential. He is a very good player but has to realise, on a professional level, you sometimes have to change your mentality. "
