Its possible there was some element within Israeli intelligence that wanted to exploit an opportunity, god knows there's no shortage of genocidal elements in the military, but everything about this runs counter to everything Israel has been trying to do for decades. Nobody gives a fuck about the Palestinians, the peace process is long dead, they had normalised relations with most arab states, Iran was effectively contained, and there was virtually no significant global resistance to their strategy. There is no way in hell that Netanyahu would willingly place all of that in the hands of the fates, certainly not at the probable cost of his own political survival. If you hold all the cards in a poker game, are you really going to upend the table in the hope of snatching the pot in the chaos?

btw in related news here in Chicago, a 71-year old man in the suburbs stabbed a 6-year old Palestinian boy to death and critically wounded his mother while shouting "all you Muslims need to die", so good work all the RW shitheels on social media etc

This is about as far down the 9/11 conspiracy theory rabbit-hole I'm prepared to go. In the aftermath of that attack, it became a commonplace to note that the FBI, CIA, NSA and other US intel/security agencies were enormously competitive with each other, shared barely any information, and, perhaps anecdotally, that each agency had many people working for it who regarded the others as being staffed by incompetent halfwits, if not thoroughly infiltrated by the Russians, Chinese or whoever (this, after all being, the kind of career where if you're not paranoid, then you're not doing your job possibly). So it's not much of a stretch to imagine that one person, or a small group, felt their own positions might be benefited by wilfully failing to pass on information indicating a possible imminent large-scale attack, either to their own superiors or to their counterparts in another agency. Some might even have felt, in some weird way, that it would be in the American national interest in the long run.

Perhaps not Netanyahu, but for his own awfulness, there are people in the Israeli government who are far more hardline and fanatical than he is.

Am I (or droid or padraig or whoever) now meant to respond with another instance of anti-Palestinian or anti-Muslim violence? Is that how this fun game is meant to work?

Please take the hint - in fact, the repeated, explicit request - and fuck off.
Easy now, I know how you anglos love to cancel people for no matter what reason

Good people of Dissensus, may we please join together in a minute of silent prayer for the real victim of the Israel-Hamas conflict, the unjustly cancelled @chava.
