My friend is interviewing Rashad in a few days time - what should she ask him? Cheers in advance... (won't be for a specialist site I think).

i'm going. it's the first time i've been to fwd and pp since it reopened but i can't miss rashad. i hope that whole overbearing-security-not-letting-you-go-out-for-a-fag thing I heard about has stopped because that would probably ruin my whole night.

yeah it was really good but it all seemed to be running a bit late and rashad was only on for like the last half an hour which was a bit disappointing. so great to hear that stuff in pp though, he played loads of his own stuff - reverb, it's not right, madness 2010 etc, and his mixing was impeccable too. I dunno if it's just me but the new soundsystem in there sounds pretty harsh, was hurting my ears at times and sounded a bit distorted in places. actually it sounded best earlier on when slimzee was playing loads of crackly old instrumental grime records. slimzee killed it.

yea i bet he did, thought the same thing the other week had to cover my ears when the breaks/white noise came in, really damaging.

got there a bit late so only caught the end of onemans set, d1 and rashad, the sound was good for oneman, it started off good for d1 but then got really harsh and brittle and was hurting my ears. but the best sound of the whole night was rashads set. really warm, big, loud, and fucking heavy, no distortion. the bass during his set was some of the best i think ive ever heard at pp (my first time since it was reopened too). tho thats prob a lot to do with the music he was playing (really liked that version of footcrab that he played, nice nod to fwd/dubstep, and it was better than the proper version, whatever it was). he was late, and i wanted him to play longer, but it was one of the best sets ive heard in a club, prob just cos ive never heard juke in a club before. but the fatness/bass on those records was seriously just immense. i like juke already but hearing it in a club was like my juke epiphany. i thought some of his mixing early on was a little bit shaky but that might have just been cos they were sorting out some technical issues. but it was a great set all in all. i really loved it. the fact i was completely shattered seemed to make the music even better lol. hope they get more juke djs down at fwd. actually id like them to get more non dubstep guys - would be good to see ill blu or funkystepz or petchy down there.

yeah i should amend that, the sound was great for rashad and wasn't really harsh at all but yeah i dunno if that was because of the music itself or just cos my ears had been battered into submission by then. it was a shame it stopped when it did, he looked like he was just getting into it at that point. good number of people in there too i thought, last few times i've been to fwd it was a total roadblock and too crowded for me, it was nice having space to dance.

yeah for me that was some of the best sound ive heard in a club. perfect clarity (tho might also be to do with how he engineers his tunes - and american producers seem to do it diff to uk producers, its fatter and warmer on the whole). rashad only played for about 40 mins i think but he came with the best set of the night :p (admittedly i missed slimzee but you kind of know what hes gonna play - no surprises with him anymore are there, on the whole, wished i caught all of onemans set tho)

Did actually commit in the end, glad I did it. I thought Rashad sounded great as well, not too harsh (though I was wearing earplugs all night). Thought Oneman was a bit, uh, hyperstasis-y perhaps? Such quick mixing from 4x4 bangers to James Blake stuff etc didn't totally hang together for me, but he did play a lot of big tunes. Trying to dance to the juke for even 40 minutes was pretty damn tiring (no I wasn't trying to footwork). Maybe I'm just super unfit. Actually there's no maybe about it, but whatever.

The bass thing is an interesting one actually, because there doesn't really seem to be any soundsystem culture round it no? I may be way off the mark, but from the youtube's I've watched it's all happening in sports halls and stuff, never in clubs, and the speakers look like any old rental PA. So surely the sub-bass is almost entirely missing, yet the way it's mixed down sounds amazing somewhere like PP.

is it sub bass? i thought it was just deep 808s or similar. like what youd get in old electro/ghetto house/ghetto tech etc. prob why you can hear it on good headphones and it still translates.
