and this... is so techno. The volume was so low on imeem that i had to amplify it tremendously... and what was revealed, gosh... deep deep bass, slowed smeared claps. head music, like drowning in a cloud. wish it was 12 minutes long. maybe i should post this in the deep house thread, it fits into that continuum somewhere i'm sure.. i've half a mind to do a tracky remix, it just needs a 4x4 drop somewhere

Some of this stuff is completely mental, surely too weird to dance to. I mean listen to this: http://www.imeem.com/teedababy1/music/fjSRomwF/dj-rome-showtime/
It's like a relentless, nonsensical nightmare.

And I know shit bitrate mp3s are the new 8track tape fuzz sonic hallmark of our web 2.0 times or whatever, but I really really hate them. It's such a waste that 90% of this stuff exists solely as a 4th generation re-encoded imeem stream. Why can't one of these earnest American ethnomusicologist types sort out some compilations and distribution for this shit happening in their own country instead of pissing around with Cumbia or whatever the hell flavour of 'world' dance music is in now Baile Funk and Kuduru are like, totally over?

That's like my ideal career... But how to begin...

Crazy track you found there, shit, thanks. But ironical to your point (which I agree with.. some of it seems just anti-dance, and yet they do. well.), it's one of the MORE musical ones i've heard so far. I mean the beat's pretty regular and there's even a bit of melody. Here's where I should rip out an example of something reaaaally crazy, but i'm... really tired. Anyone? Just want to prove your point even more. It's really strange music, they're making up the rules as they go

^exactly

there was one compilation (maybe it was a mix) curated by dj benzi and dj rashad about a year or so ago, but it was geared toward yr average turntablelab/bmore+fool's gold records+whatever else club dj, with things like 50 cent, kid sister jukes...pretty sure the abstract side of juke is avoided because it isn't exactly populist club fodder...that said, i'd spend plenty of money on it...

That was all beats Rashad & Benzi did together. Good utlitarian stuff that wouldn't stand out in any 'ghetto fabulous' serato mixtraviganzia.

Not a patch on the avant side the youngers are on, which I fear no business man (like Benzi) would ever put out. Shame.

Perhaps with oil prices going up & air travel becoming less viable, the next generation of pop-anthropoligists will be forced to exploit the musics of the USAs internal 3rd World... gawd help em

Apols - wrong link. This is the tune I meant to link. Darkly sweet.
"I waited for you, today, but you didnt show" the inclusion of the pause and then 'today' is genuius

You have to wonder where he even turns this stuff up, or why he's looking out for this

this one is excruciating christian rock...

Nods head in complete agreement. At some point this music will cross over here (UK/Europe) and it'll be like the Detroit tehno 'nuum.

To be fair I think the near ubiquity of unlicensed (and in practical terms probably unlicensable) samples probably scuppers any hope of this stuff getting any proper distribution. There's also the fact that they seem completely uninterested in their music being heard by anyone outside Chicago. Probably anyone outside a particular area of Chicago to be honest, I don't really know.

Though I'm sure both these issues would be quickly overcome if this stuff worked in a Diplo set.

1000% agreed. Especially when the stuff they hyped from kuduru and baile (I'm sure there's some amazing lesser-known music there) hasn't got anything on what I've heard of juke, to be honest....

http://www.imeem.com/people/TCarx/music/jejNF4i4/tha-pope-one-blood-juke/?rel=1 - predictably great!

figures... and wouldn't be surprised if they've told him to stop selling those mixtapes with uncleared samples. the strike-thru on the "TC VOL 5 COMING MAY 09" has worried me. no replies to my inquiries, but looks like he hasn't logged in since june
