My opinion of his political stance is not based on what 'quite a few conservatives say', but on the records of those he has appointed, and on the positions he took prior to the election. The fact that conservatives are now hailing his choices shows just how unlikely substantive political and policy changes are...
...But he's still weeks away from office and he's already backing up powerless working people, talking about hundreds of billions in government dollars being committed to building up the country, tackling health care and climate change, reiterating that deficit reduction is a low priority right now, standing by his pledge to draw down in Iraq and apparently planning to go to Cairo (probably) to give a speech on America's new relationship to the world – a move, again, that I can't conceive of any president of my lifetime having the guts to consider making in his first hundred days.
Obama walking Bush to the helicopter ...
I have to admit I felt a little lump in my throat as he was giving his inauguration speech. It was sort of bittersweet because he could easily not be able to deal with the massive problems America and the rest of the world face... it could all be for nothing.
Good luck to him.
As far as being able to singlehandedly solve all the world's problems goes, nobody will ever be able to accomplish that in a four year term, or ever...
he's good, he's bright, straight down the middle, chooses his words carefully, the straight down the middle part is the most important, he seems to make a point of ignoring the idea of america that's divided by ideology, from the people he's chosen to the words he leaves out. He's a serious guy, he makes the last 8 years seem like a nightmare, you're sat there wondering at his inauguration speech how did that lazy, stupid jackass and those fucking people who only ever looked out for themselves, even get taken seriously ever.
What do you think to that then? From the day Obama was elected to 9:30am Tokyo time on Monday morning, the S&P 500 index has lost 17% of its value, after absorbing Obama's proposed cabinet and hearing the gist of his economic stimulus plan. That can't be blamed on Bush. It counts as the "Obama crash".
