Music for Snow Days

Mr. Tea

Let's Talk About Ceps
I always thought that Supernaut from the same album sounded like the ultimate cocaine tune. Someone test this for me? ;)

Absolutely...the most TRUIMPHANT riff ever riffed, and lyrics about feeling like you're the emperor of the known and unknown Universe because you've just boshed enough charlie to give a bull elephant a heart attack...awesome stuff.

probably the best album from this otherwise rather obtuse group -- that Riley Piece:

HALF WOLF DANCING MAD IN MOON LIGHT

is fucking wicked.

Bring out the vacuum
Been listening to a Russian techno(-ish - sort of Gas, Porter Ricks territory) guy called Unit 21 in the NZ summer and feeling like I have to shelve the records til winter hits... so frosty and stuff that really does sound like recordings of harsh winds.

I blogged about his free EP and would totally recommend it if you like Gas, Porter Ricks / Thomas Koener, any of that techno gone crackly / murky / droney.

Lycia, 'Cold'
The Cure, 'Pornography'
Cocteau Twins, 'Victorialand'
Ulver, 'Nattens Madrigal'

I agree with the person who nominated 'Vespertine', one of my favourite winter-time albums. Also, Tuvan throat-singing is quite good for cold days. Being from Australia, though, I can really only imagine snow rather than experience it....

*nodding* in fervent agreement, esp. to 'Victorialand' and 'Pornography'; and yes, 'Cold'.

Just occured to me - the other all-time classic of early 70s coke-vibe rawk (albeit with more of a downer, boshed-too-much undertow): Whipping Post by The Allman Brothers.
(Though I half-anticipate some clever-clogs to pop up and tell me it was actually done in 1969, genuinely unsure but think it was very early 70s).

Early Goth has always had hipster appreciation hasn't it? Birthday Party, Banshees, Killing Joke etc? At the least, I've never widely heard/read that stuff being slated.
(And if you mean things like Southern Death Cult not getting much love, then I can only feel that's a good thing ;) ).

yeh but really only the Banshees are goth out of those & they're probably the least "cool". Killing Joke = death disco a la PIL which is always cool & The Birthday Party has that noise rock/free jazz (avant cool) punk/tortured poet ting going on. even the Banshess really cos they're kind of like the Cure lite and even if the Cure is a little bit dad rock they're still like "oh we write melancholy love songs & upbeat melancholy songs" also always cool for artsy white folk.

uncool Goth being rehabilited, we're talking like Christian Death & London After Midnight & Sisters of Mercy. and more importantly the fashion, people who call themselves Cyber-Goths and look like the lovechildren of candy ravers and Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice. and I mean more power to em but that whole like is way too sincere to ever be "cool".

edit - oh sorry to get off topic
