As much I like to think my teen years held nothing but Gansta Rap, 90s radio was crammed with RnB. Yes, there were radio shows (always have been) playing hiphop but the big places (national radio, MTV) were dominated by Mariah Carey, En Vogue, Boys2Men, Jodeci, R kelly, Brandy, Babyface ...

RnB has been around since the late 1950s but I'm talking about how RnB and hip hop sort of fused into one entity on the radio. Artists like Fabolous technically "rap" but their demo is more on target with RnB listeners and their aesthetic is more mainstream/accessible.
