Hacienda exhibition at Urbis ,Manchester

hot on the heels of love
http://www.urbis.org.uk/page.asp?id=3149Went to the Hacienda exhibition at Urbis yesterday…MUCH better than I thought it would be by virtue of the films of performances at the Hacienda from 1982-1985
The Fall, The Birthday Party, The Cramps (crazed) 52nd Steet (dull but a pointer to the phuture perhaps) and an early Smiths gig (joyous)
There’s a Divine performance too which, taking the exhibition as a whole, serves to illustrate the Queerness of the Hacienda (theres a lot about the Flesh nights-quite rightly – I think the main reason I liked it was the emphisis on the Queer rather than the Happy Mondays Ladchester)

Nice one, labrat, I'll have to pop over on the train.

From the Urbis site:

Wed 14 Nov
6-8pm
£3
Urbis and D&AD proudly present a key note lecture from Peter Saville and Ben Kelly, two of the seminal designers responsible for creating a Manchester aesthetic which invaded the British high street in the mid 1980s. Its influence continues to be seen both there and across the world today.

I really want to see this. I'll go on my own like a sadcase if none of my mates are up for it.
They'll probably be baffled as to why somebody would pay to see a lecture, but still...

Tentative Andy

I'm in the Meal Deal

Whilst I see what you're getting at, I think it's unfair to slate HM as being strictly a Lads phenomena. They were more interesting than that. Obviously though as a Manchester resident you are in a more accurate position to judge.
Hmmm I seem to be feeling very argumentative at the mo. Exhibition sounds cool anyhow.
