lol yeah that was great, his point about pressing up the pitch increasing the efficacy of counter-attacks was an obvious one but totally on point with regard to the game we were watching, in that first half paraguay were totally ruthless pressing the slovakian defense and holding midfielders. i half expected mccarthy to rib him for being a book-readin poof or something...

i think mccarthy is intelligent he's just really really annoying. dixon isn't bad either. if hansen and shearer had been there you could imagine them taking him to one side and going "stop doing this bloody research pal, you're making us look bad out there"

It's looking to be a South American dominated tournament. Argentina are looking good but their defence is pretty poor and hasn't been tested yet. Brazil seem on pretty good form, nothing spectacular as of yet though. Uruguay aren't bad. They'd fall apart without Forlan though.

Italy will definitely go through - undeserved, but Slovakia had one shot on target in that entire match this afternoon. As to the others, I think England will do it...Spain and Germany are the really interesting ones...having beat Ghana to be sure of qualification is not a position anyone would want to be in, and Spain's group is hugely wide open.
France, of course, are fucked.
