i find the R&B samples weird in juke. theyre not really deployed in some weirdly perverse kind of way, theyre played pretty straight. its just juke as R&B. maybe theyre hoping to get producing for beyonce or someone.

hmm don't really agree there, they're often pitchbent. edited to the rhythm, cut short into little vocal 'hits' and loops, it's not like whole accapellas are lifted straight ever. or there is any intention to make juke fit into a pop or song format, its all about bending short samples to fit into these tense, hi energy blasts. It seems to tie in well with the 'crack' slang term they use in the music, like its cracking and breaking the music to fit jukes template, or working something worldwide into something that sounds more local.

Well these guys aren't all setting out to make only "weirdly perverse" music. Hip-hop is usually around 80 so fitting that into a 160 beat is easy due to halftime, and that stuff gets some radio play and is good for parties. R & B the same thing with a bit of pitching it up. Just makes sense really.

And um, I would love for DJ Rashad or someone to produce for someone like Beyonce, that would be crazy. I mean Gant Man did a remix for her that is on a major label 12" a while ago.

not really disagreeing with what mms said, and yeah, its cool in the sense that it means anything can be put into juke, its just that the samples are pretty long. so its not like how you might get some old soul/R&B vocals used in say, a dipset song, where its done with both love/irreverence, it seems pretty straight up. i suppose im just surprised by it. and i loved the gant check on it remix. this is different though.

Soooo, I'll get to the few things I haven't had the time to respond to since my marriage.

Secondly, the DJ Tameil release was the first EP simply because Tameil is a good friend of mine, the Jersey Club Music scene is not just a fad in Jersey, but a longtime musical tradition out there, and I would love to have some type of long lasting connection with that scene. Is the music as popular as it was before? No. Does that mean that I don't like the music? No as well.

As for Salem & DJ Nate, are they seriously working together?! I thought Nate was becoming hip hop and thus avoiding any footwork music altogether? I don't know, thats just what I thought.
