So on first listen I really like Deep In The Valley, Shantie's new tune with Rudimental. Hope the man himself does well out of it, he's a legend imo.

I do feel that its quite patronising to blame producers for having a negative attitude, just because they don't play the game. They want to do things their own way, whether their hopes of success are realistic or not. I find this attitude refreshing personally.
i'm not trying to be patronising, there's always gonna be something appealing and intriguing about ppl who don't want to do things by anyone else's terms - but then you can't have it both ways and complain that they're not getting the right sort of press attention or chart success.

On the wider discussion, I kind of agree with Tim that quite a lot of people (perhaps esp music critics and long-term music watchers) ought to just admit that they're not all that into funky. In my experience on forums these tend to be the people that say things like 'funky will be properly good when xyz development happens' then when xyz does happen they change the criteria. It's silly really because of course everyone is entitled to their tastes and it's not a crime not to like something (even though in this case obv I wouldn't agree with them). But like Tim says there's so much cred that goes with being into underground London music that it's maybe hard to admit when you don't like it much.

But having said all that, I've also seen plenty of people on here who either didn't listen to funky before or listened to bits and pieces but didn't know much about it start to really like it and get into it. Generalising a bit, they maybe tend to be those who don't have so many preconceptions or demands about how underground club music should work, they just want information. These are usually people who once I (or Benny or Tim or whoever) actually fill them in on the name of a tune and it's producer, where you can hear it, where you can buy it if appropriate, throw up some links they'll say 'oh yeah that's great'. So for that reason I'm perfectly happy to keep being communicative about all the funky tunes that I like, for as long as there's tunes coming through that I rate.

I also totally hear what Benny is saying about DIY and producers doing things on their own terms. I just maybe feel that there are more and less realistic/sustainble ways of going about this.

OK Tom, I don't want to have a go at you. There's been some excellent stuff on your label and I hope you keep trying to connect with some of the more distant producers, I'm aware its a struggle.

^Yeah big up Local Action for sure - and I'm not just saying that to try and keep the peace or whatever, there's been some crackers on that label already.

on a lighter note, if you havent heard shay & sinista - remember the edge, then check it out

Co-sign on this too, just heard it and now I have a daft smile on my face. Hands in the air biz.

Right, Deep In The Valley is at about 51 mins on this set:
http://vulive.co.uk/content/2011/02/03/smoove-kriminal-on-deja-vu-mon-31st-january-2011/
(Also check the new Murdz tune right before it, some serious eski vibes :) ).

Yeah good tune and quite a departure from rudimentals other stuff.

Really hoping Petchy's on tonight, he's missed the last few saturdays. Carnao on Deja Vu at midnight tonight too. I think he said he'll be playing a load of Dutch house along with his own productions.

Interesting release by Terror, never saw it coming on Hardrive.

Yeah that white label sounded rubbish, bad pressing I think mine had loads of pops on it :p

Ahh c'mon Petch, turn up and play a few tunes before I have to go out. Lol.
Reaper is such a flippin joker though. And seems to have every garage record ever made, so it's not all bad.

mc kie with him now

its depeo, not kie.

There hasn't been a saturday petchy show for ages now. Mind you he has been known to be an hour and a half late, so you never know.

Reaper is a dj with stamina, 4 hour shows are no problem for him it seems.

Even though Petchy hasn't turned up again its been hype since the MCs showed up. Reaper has been drawing for all sorts.

Yeah, reapers just been slamming them in hasn't he, love that style of djing even though he is a bit erratic at times.

I've recorded the show anyway, I'll up it in a bit.

edit: Shit, freecorder crashed so I lost it, nevermind
