Vogue fucks up again.

A quick bit of re-writing has re-titled these earrings as "Ethnic Earrings" - I think the huge number of complaints in the comments alerted someone's attention to the fact that "Slave Earrings" wasn't gonna fly. The description doesn't really make sense now though.

If the name brings to the mind the decorative traditions of the women of colour who were brought to the southern Unites States during the late 18th century, the latest interpretation is pure freedom. Colored stones, symbolic pendants and multiple spheres. And the evolution goes on.

I wonder if the people who work in fashion are the dumbest in the world.

Interesting they say 'women of colour' which I always thought was used to mean non-whites generally. Obviously you can't talk about 1st-gen slaves as African Americans, but why not African or just black?

Also, why both UK and US spelling of 'colour' in the same para? It's an ethno-political-sub-editorial-360-degree fashion disaster.

I think it's from Italian Vogue. Probably didn't know which spelling of colour to use and, going by the rest of the article, didn't think about it that hard either. Same with the "women of colour" bit, I'm sure they didn't investigate the precise meaning of that phrase, just picked one out of a hat. We're lucky we didn't get something worse.

Strike the prose, there's nothing to it - Vogue (Vogue, Vogue, Vogue).

I think it was mentioned but yeah it is Italian Vogue - I'm suprised their website is in English actually....

But still, the article now says:

WE'VE DECIDED TO REMOVE THE ARTICLE FROM THE SITE TO PROVE OUR GOOD FAITH AND TO SHOW IT WASN'T OUR INTENTION TO INSULT ANYONE

(and still tagged as 'creole')

Rich, you say "Vogue fucks up again" - have they done stuff like this in the past? I'm all ears (sadly unadorned by 'slave earrings', though)...

Darned cockwombles.
Yeah, absolutely appalling, but not a surprise really. I would say especially as it's from Italy, which is not exactly known for being super racially tolerant, but hell, that's true of most anywhere, and that would be unfairly singling out Italy...

I seem to remember a shoot from a few years back based around soldiers in Iraq - think that was Vogue, maybe I'm wrong.
