Speakerss

I am planning to save some of my ill-gotten gains up over the next few months to buy some speakers.

Currently, I have some 200 quid monitors that were useful for production but aren't that great for listening to music on. My housemate has some KRK 8s which seem fantastic for listening to music on. They're 400 quid, so I was going to save up for those.

However, I know that studio monitors aren't DESIGNED for listening to music on, so now I'm looking into speakers such as:

SO: just wondering what your opinions are on this? And what you listen to music on. After all, it's important for us music obsessives.

Studio monitors through a nice amp can sound amazing.

I have Mackie HR824's Mk1s which I got secondhand for not much more than your budget.

I'd never go back.

I live in a block of flats so there's zero point getting decent speakers. Decent headphones would be a better investment

It's a shame that soundproofing isn't easier/cheaper to achieve. Headphones are great but there's nothing that beats listening to music extremely loudly on actual speakers. I partly attribute my increasing disinterest in club music to my not going to many clubs and hearing the music as it should be heard.

Yeah every time I hear loud music out I berate myself for not doing it more often. It's always revelatory

I hate it when other people do it. Nothing more annoying than a thud thud thud thud.

Shame. This is why clubs exist, I suppose, in part. But then you don't get to pick the music. This is why people become DJs, I suppose, in part.

Still remember the glory of the Valve soundsystem almost shaking my teeth out one time. Two cheap pills. GLORY DAYS.

Let's make this a real audiophile/bore thread and ask WHAT WAS THE BEST SOUNDSYSTEM YOUR EVER HEARD? and WHAT IS THE BEST SOUNDSYSTEM IN THE WORLD NOW?

Got these four years ago and still love them. Velour pads ... I can wear them all day.
