Well, it appears that there are very little numbers of people of colour in Extinction Rebellion. It seems it's a very white people movement.

This is going back to the first few pages of the thread.
There seems to be some recognition of financial privilege in the arrest strategy (pensioners acknowledging that younger people's job opportunities might be damaged by arrest, so they've stepped up to get arrested instead), but little beyond that.

You can argue that XR should do more, get the leaders pictured at carnival wearing backwards baseball caps and drinking from a coconut with a straw, but I don't think they really give a shit. These are people who believe, and they may well be right, that we are looking at mass starvation in the next ten years. They want to ensure the continuation of life on planet earth. They don't have any concern with social justice which to them, is a luxury to be pursued once the danger has passed.

nope (@ post before last). XR seems to operate on a basis which ensures their continued whiteness, and middle classness. a white, middle class saviour group, tone-deaf to all else, or at least that's the danger in how it will be perceived.

Yes of course. I think that's deliberate. We've talked about this in terms of corpseys belief that they are nowhere near middle class enough.

Sure, I don't think it's deliberate in any conscious sense though, all operating on a subconscious level of what is 'normal' to the people involved. I could be wrong.
It's all a bit like Live Aid with arrests (in terms of the white saviour attitude, obviously there are many differences)

They know the middle class in this country is still powerful, not as powerful as it once was, but still hugely influential. To quote Corpsey again "the communists have been waiting all over a 100 years for the proles to kickstart a revolution and it hasn't happened. The middle class need to take matters into their own hands they are the revolutionary class. The middle class is the fulcrum of power."

Links to the economic crisis - it's only when middle class people also start to suffer en masse, that there will be any proper pushback. In 2007-9, the disaster didn't affect enough of the middle classes to stimulate change, and it was absorbed quite quickly.

They are the saviours in those terms, but many lack the ability/don't want to bother linking up the way in which they treat people in the immediate environment, to their saviour mission. Unchecked narcissism, basically.

We all have narcissism, it's healthy up to a point. But it needs to be checked.
If it isn't, you find yourself on top of a tube train in Newham in the early hours of an autumn Wednesday obstructing lots of people who probably have less privilege than you. All in the duty of saving the planet.
