it's the melodic hooks for me. they just seem to be achingly stuck in the early 80s. which would be fine if there wasn't a twin revolution in music happening at the time. too much 60s psychy yearning and pathos. not enough sinews. too disembodied.

Re new build, I listened to it recently cos Sean from autechre said it was one of his faves. Thought it was alright but so dated. I know I say that about a lot of stuff. But there you go. I basically think music is gonna be shit til you get a new 303 or something. Like, the best of any genre you can make, it's been done. I know this is a crap argument btw, it's like all those pro and anti dubstep wars from years ago, but I really do feel, right now, that unless there's a new technology or conceptualisation, it's like we're going up the stairs, down the escalator, on and on, and infinitum
