luke etc gave him shit for it, there was some polemica, luke denounced rock music for the 1000th time
another new guy asked if dissensus liked any "modern rock acts"
which to me implies certain sonic parameters and probably a certain level of popularity
i.e. noise rock biz probably in, powerviolence no. not that you can't post whatever, just in response to his specific question.

well everything's rock lineage
but ca. 79-87ish guitar music splits off into a separate world with its own lineage, like the cadet branch of a royal dynasty
(that's from the birth of hardcore thru grindcore, death metal, black metal fully established as codified things unto themselves)
there are numerous gray areas, of course
post-hardcore in general probably qualifies as "rock music" as it puts back in much of what hardcore stripped out of rock music
