Drums n bass on this are o_O


Bitches Brew was the first miles album I heard aged 16 and it took me ages to get my head round it, having no other frame of reference. This one really still freaks me out - that echo on the trumpet

Bitches Brew was my first one too. One for the rewiring thread. In A silent Way was easy after that but then On The Corner was very confusing. it just sounded wrong, and still does.

I wish I could post Lester Bangs' writings on electric miles here, they were brilliant - fascinating to read such a great writer and huge miles fan wrestling with these confusing electric records that he hated at first and finally coming to understand them. Lost my books and cant find them published online unfortunately

I actually found getting into OTC a bit easier cos it sounded really 'modern', even though it still doesn't sound like anything else really. Ido remember wondering why the tambourines were so fucking loud and awkward though and miles himself quite hard to pick out of the mix. Very odd record indeed

More than other Miles albums, "On The Corner" suddenly got hipster cred with the dawn of No Wave. James Chance mentioning it as an influence, which is clear from listening to the Contortions. I'd never heard it until he referenced it, then it quickly became an inspiration for a generation of skinny white noisy punk dudes.

not those qualities to the same degree. thats why that one stands out and its referenced so often. but in a silent way might press some of the same buttons. or someday my prince will come. or various other things. depends partly on what youre picking up on.

i guess my problem is i hate trumpets, i can't stand them, the most obnoxious sound that i know of. that's why i can enjoy "he loved him madly".

it's a total cracker. lester bangs wrote about it which is why i knew about "get up with it". lester bangs was the big miles davis fanatic.
