Strange nation, but in many ways the American has been increasingly demonised.
Been over at various times - in a ltr with a *Lily from Philly, then years later worked for a relative who ran a food gaff popular at state fairs and the like for (too) long. Most people served up were open and fun, the odd cock drunk, but a more loose psychology than this side of the pond overall, i think. Had an absolute hoot though, but no health insurance meant staying was unsustainable. The side gigs were the best education. Yard work, pool installation (), roofing, bars and pvt dinner waiting, pet sitting, painting and decorating etc. Before Graigslist, so a constant hustle.
The accent was a solid pulling weapon. Definitely a more north European drinking culture. Drink driving seemed a cultural blind eye spot. Only time i saw any police purposefully stop anyone for that was nr midnight on 4th July. Philly on New Year's Day was brutal too, liver trying to revolt levels of drunk, followed by a ruck for laughing at the Mummer costumes. Weird fixation about parking cars in the same direction.
I miss the 'butter' days (3 shower humidity melters), live sports and football days at friends, outdoor swimming pools (only a Brit would cite this), baseball pitching machines, certain beers, good pizza, playing cards under the stars listening to cicadas and fireflies going off. Didn't meet the Glanton Gang, thank fuck.
*Anything but a flower, but a Zanzibar veteran and taught me loads about the Dead as a live group.
