I’ve been reading her book. Whilst not a page turner, it is pretty forensic on the beneficial effects of rewilding at all kinds of levels. In Tree's Wilding book - she said that larger predators were essential for full re-wilding to take place but that the amount of regulation made it impossible. Factors such as allowing larger animals (deer, cattle etc) to die and letting their carcasses rot and be picked over by carrion feeders was not allowed and the size of the roaming areas of the larger predators would require the rewilded areas to be significantly bigger - wolves, for example need at least 50 square miles.
Even when predators have successfully been encouraged they are being targeted - most birds of prey will be shot by gamekeepers to keep their own charges safe (birdcrime as it's called) - the almost factory farming of grouse for weekend warriors to blast away at but leave behind in mounds of waste is the cause. I find the idea that someone charged with being a custodian of the countryside could, in clear conscience, shoot a hen harrier beyond comprehension.

We get the odd coyote in Manhattan from time to time , they can pad across the railway bridge up top of the island at Spuyten Dyvil into the large woods of Inwood.
Then down either side of the island through the green areas or into Central Park.
'Just looking for a home'
After Prez Clinton got the Island bk to NY, the call went out for plans on what to do with it.
It's kind of a great place , when one is 'out there' ( what, 10m off Southern tip of Manhattan ) you can cruise around, get lost in the tall rushes, lounge on hammocks, electronic music perf's, food carts, renta double bike.
They also let the v southern end of the island stay low and marsh like in places so
the next hurricane may not do such damage.
The Hills - as seen in link - came out good too.
I mean hey, it used to be a George Washington era flatland and only military could use it.

“At night, I would go out, after a drink, and recycle the beer,” Professor Malkinson said. “It’s two for the price of one — you fertilize the trees and you try to deter the wild boars.”

Bear ambassadors
In the Central Apennines, so-called ‘bear ambassadors’ have been working since 2015 to mitigate human-bear conflicts and create a better understanding of people towards the Marsican brown bear, a rare subspecies of the brown bear living in this area.Was disappointed to find out that the ambassadors were human and not bears with suits on, but this is still great work guys.
Japan has a bear phenom going on now for years too.
Of course, they get hungry , depending on the available food and come down into the back yards ...Japan often has short distance between the hill and the flat so
maybe that has something to do with the surprise , shock some of these citizens feel.

I can't put into words how much I hate these miserable ex-urban dormitory estates. They're invariably ugly as sin and the houses are of appalling build quality, but quite apart from that, they're all low-density so they require vast amounts of land for the number of people they accommodate, they have no communal space whatsoever so they actively discourage any kind of sense of community, and they're predicated entirely on car ownership, to the extent that you literally can't live there if you don't have one.
You'd be hard pressed to come up with a worse way of housing people from either a social or an environmental point of view.
