One theory's that they wanted to push the rest of the world into locking down in order to damage them. Another's that they wanted to push the rest of the world further toward their brand of authoritarianism. Yet another's that they wanted everyone following their approach to the pandemic so that they couldn't be shown up by anyone doing well with a different approach and could be seen as successfully leading the fight.

The suggestion that the pandemic response is being used to prime the general public for climate lockdowns where only the rich are allowed to travel and maintain their lifestyle is quite convincing.

Not just travel though. Food, heating, lighting.

Immiseration and impoverishment for all but the most privileged. Elysium is one of those films that will turn out to be prophetic.

We need every citizen to be involved in the fight of COVID-19 and follow this policy.” Italy was simultaneously bombarded with Chinese disinformation. From March 11 to 23, roughly 46% of tweets with the hashtag #forzaCinaeItalia (Go China, go Italy) and 37% of those with the hashtag #grazieCina (thank you China) came from bots.

Yes, that's my point! They're really in the crosshairs and getting extra dose of totalitarianism. It's not as though western govts have any kind of effective internal security these days. Corruptible, mercenary, unpatriotic, and venal
