This was my favourite song by them but lately it was one of those ones which I thought 'oh this is actually dreary and his voice is ridiculous' about. It hurt to feel that way. But now craner said he likes it I feel comfortable liking it again.

lol there are too many songs where mick IMO is just flat out ridiculous. his silly country voice is terrible. his bloooz voice is shocking too. luckily he wrote enough songs good enough to look past that, or songs where his voice isnt that prominent or forced to hold its own too much.

RIP charlie watts. never heard his jazz stuff so cant say whether all the claims for his swingingness hold up in a diff context, i think he was just a frustrated drummer but one who nonetheless knew a good opportunity when he saw one, but i liked his modesty as a drummer. very much in line with that kind of period where jazz, rnb, blues and rock came together. he still had that subtlety.

its an impossible stumbling block for me, that voice. its the worst voice in the history of music. some of the noise the band makes i quite like.

i confess i dont totally understand their reputation, i just assume people of a certain age didnt know any better.

they have a good greatest hits collection, but you have to avoid the vast majority of their album tracks which are often unlistenable because of mick. i think the appeal of mick is sort of being in on the joke, you know hes a bit shit, he knows hes a bit shit, but everyones laughing at him trying to go against the absence of god given gifts anyway, that kind of relationship between audience and performer you get on charity talent shows.

I can think off the top of my head of 4 slightly/very ridiculous white-bloke-singer voices that I love mimicking (Dylan, Jagger, Morrissey, Gallagher)

I almost think having a stupid voice is the sign of a great white-bloke singer.

Not sure if it applies to black singers. Obviously James Brown has a sort of comical singing style...

morrissey can sing though. so can gallagher. or at least, they dont have hideous voices. dylan is fun to take the piss out of but he compensated with other things. jagger often has a genuinely hideous voice.
