this is fascinating for a number of reasons 1) being 2008 to 2012 with some really great exceptions kinda remembered as not particularly great years in grimes existence
my awakening included all the older stuff as well. i'd never heard any of it, except one dizzie record and one wiley one, neither of which i'd understood, so I had, you know, the whole canon to get through. downloading things like WD25 for example, hearing durrty goodz for the first time, hearing trim for the first time was a real rush, all of that.

woops

is not like other people
is that what that is? i thought it was just 100 tunes that you like. probably the description is the more interesting part, the trajectory of taste with one thing leading to another, never heard that many people talk about that
That's what I'm trying to do with mine

pass the sick bucket
aren't you from the UK? how could you not have heard of grime until 2008.

Only reason why I ask is coss you said year 9 instead of 9th grade.

sorry @WebEschatology for all the derailment. but its an interesting set of tangents for me. coz its about me.

almost no-one i knew in england listened to grime until the very recent stormzy era. dizzee was the exception but even then i know people that listened to it didn't really like it that much. i knew loads of people who were into us hiphop though. and obviously d&b everywhere.

Fuckin Problems then and now i still think that song is pretty mid tbh, never really liked Asap Rocky and man i know people joke about like neuveo riche guys in Dubai all being really into Drake but you was really living the movie there
it was dhaka, different kettle of fish. but yeah. for whatever reason the drake thing and dubai do really go together incredibly well.

I did listen to it yes. Thought it was good. I liked that one that used the bethlehem tune, ba room ba boom boom. Seems to be one of those albums that's got the whole lot.

alright alright if you really need something to pay attention to just the whole piece of it, the choices in samples that him and Nick Peace go for, the way Nickatina does alot of myth building of what MC's embody, how his flow seems straight forward (like a 80s rapper almost) but there's all these strange funny lines that poke out when you notice them.

Lolo Swift's rapping and just the fact that its a fire album

There....that enough?

@suspended or would you like me to take a page out of your book and say some shit like "much like how Joanna Newsom evokes the mythic island before its fall into the sea Nickatina is able to evocativly bring the mythical Lost tribe of Shabazz to life in a way that mere textbooks can't"?

on some old school "used to be highly respected but now everybody sees him as a blowhard" English music journo shit lol

i dont get it either tbh. as far as i can remember he was invented by an eastern european music journalist called Noz who was very influential in the early rap blogosphere. Noz also invented Lil B.
