I kept thinking about the terminology of 'vibes'. It always sounds like bullshit coming out of my mouth. At the same time its a concept without equivalent, that gets at something important. I'm very much a bad vibes merchant myself. But I found Jamaica to very much have good vibes. Actually that good vibes seemed to be something that your man on the street was committed to creating, between people. Shallow analysis I know but that's all I've got, these very subjective impressions. I don't know the truth but it seems possible that the whole vibes terminology is something that came to the UK with Jamaicans, I guess someone will have written about that at some point.
Moods are contagious
Arses were very much in my face. I saw someone taking a photo of thier massive arse in a thong, like a selfie. And beyond that one incident there were a lot of small things that suggested that big arses are valorised. I know I should already be aware of this kind of thing, but it's the best example I've seen of that whole idea that sexuality, specifically what's attractive and what's not, is culturally created.
In what culture are sizable female asses not valorized?

I've been to some other carribean countries, like the ones close to Jamaica like Puerto Rico and Cuba. Jamaica was absolutely different to either of these, which in turn aren't very similar to one another. Different language, ethnicity, culture, way of doing things, buildings, music obviously, drinks, food I think. And very different, as I said, vibe.

And yeah contagious. It's partly being on holiday but not just that - I genuinely felt a lot better about myself and the world after a few days, especially as compared to the general affective consequences of nyc

So there is definitely variability there, I think America has become more of an ass society the past 20 years, so it feels ubiquitous now but maybe wouldn't have before

there is obviously something great about all the music, everywhere, being played by some old geezer in his car, by an 18 year old Uber driver, from soundsystems in shops, some random guy playing tunes in the square, being something that you like. and actually was starting to wonder if half the sounds I like in UK music are Jamaican descended. I know that's old territory but it felt really obvious over there.

it was comprehensive as well. a bit of US hiphop here and there. but mostly modern dancehall and 80s dancehall from what I could hear. not much roots, except in tourist-land with bob marley merch as you'd expect. no dub whatsoever. some stuff that sounded like Jamaican afrobeats. pretty much all Jamaican music I think. Not much foreign stuff. Except I Will Always Love You, which I heard twice.

Settle a bet- are you an ass man?
Who is betting on this and what are the odds being offered?
Also, I think that this needs clarifying, if someone is an "ass" man, does that mean necessarily that they prefer a big ass? Or does it simply mean that they have some sort of strong preference relating to the bum, whether it be for a big, fat, chunky, juicy one that playfully bounces temptingly up and down and side to side in a mesmerising rhythm that irresistibly draws the eye while deliciously straining the fabric that struggles to contain its exuberance - or, er, some other type?

bloodclart as well. people kept saying it on the street, and my ears picked it up, because it was like hearing a producer ident or something, that terror danjah goblin laugh, HOLIDAY SEASON!, one of those.

kind of strange to come to a country where your only exposure to anything about it has been music
