uh oh, my mayday trip to Poland is under reconsideration
I'd just like to revisit what is perhaps the crowning pun of @Mr. TeaThe Vlad's Whatsapp.

OOOOOH, that's a good point! There are bound to be some *killer* Downfall memes coming out of all this.Cope. At this point, this is like Hitler moving imaginary armies around the map table in his bunker. Their actual army is currently spending more time haunting lay-bys than washyourhands

With a fence to restrain the enthralled spectators, I gather?
Any thoughts on this?
Some people are saying it's been staged, which is plausible, but if that's true then I think it shows how desperate the government has got, since until now it hasn't even acknowledged there is a war, and has tried to dress it up as a "special military operation".
I think it did go out on air. Her brief speech apparently mentions the "brotherhood" of Russians and Ukrainians, which has been a big part of Russian rhetoric (they're "liberating brothers" from a corrupt and oppressive government, not invading another country).what's the prevailing conspiracy theory? that it was produced via green screen for social media but never actually broadcast? one commenter mentions Russian news is never broadcast live, always pre-recorded, so it would have been allowed to stand if it did air.
Thing is, Putin has set out to capture or kill Zelenskyy, install a puppet government, and reduce Ukraine to a vassal state, with the ultimate intent of incorporating it into Greater Russia. Anything short of that - such as a compromise that lets Ukraine retain independence in return for Crimea and Donbas being seceded to Russia - will therefore be a total failure.would be a weird feeling if these bits and pieces in the news about the two sides finding some common ground on a peace deal means that this war is over quickly. i feel like everyone (myself included) has been gearing up for this to be a long drawn-out thing that takes years, thats felt almost unquestionable to me, i'd mentally readjusted to there being a conflict in that part of the world for the near future.
i wonder if the covid experience has had anything to do with this emotional and intellectual reaction, the realization that major things can change and get a lot worse.
