In many ways, everything I've ever accomplished in life has been fueled by negative energy. Conquest, spite, competition, angst, boredom- rarely do I feel like the love of something is ever enough to propel its practice forward, and what pushes something over the top is negative energy. Is this just my personal framing of indifferent forces or is there something to negative energy? What is your relationship to negative thinking?

That was always my dad's advice to me he'd say Luke the things that drove me were envy, competiveness, a sense of inadaquacy, lust. These are powerful movers. Don't neglect them.maybe the prime engines of human life.

In sport, I was reasonably good without being anything like an athlete, it was only when my competitiveness was triggered that I could excel

I wouldn't give much unless that kicked in. I'd be content to do something pretty. A languid and decorative presence

I'd always been millions of times better than everyone at the things I was good at too. The blog thing was good for me cos in craner snd Cathy I met people whose writing was better than me in some ways. Not in all ways I hasten to add... but in important ways that made me want to push on

What drives people is probably animal and base, regardless of what ends it is eing directed to, good or bad, selfless or self interested. The ends probably matter more than the motive or engine

You know he doesn't mean it. Maybe there's a Catholic he really wanted to stick it in. Maybe he just wants a reaction. He wants to make something happen. It's cunty, it's pathetic, it's juvenile, and we can all relate to it

Yeah there is something to be said for how inner balance and satisfaction aren't good propellants. I do think an exception is sustained flow state, which can at once be generative and nourishing.
