there's something about the pop-spectacle of ritual humiliation from the stage which reminds me of the online pile on. it's first and foremost an american thing i think, or at least to some extent. the roast and so on.
i don't know anything about kendrick lamar but what i got out of good kid and pimp a butterfly and bits of the second to most recent one was that he was self-critical and was taking apart some of his more aggro values. his glastonbury performance was out of this world partly coz there was this christian-moral element to it. the drake thing is a lurch away from that actually the exact opposite of what i liked about those albums it's macho bullshit it's got more in common with the internet than anything else. finding a smear that sticks and grinding someone into the dirt with it. has the cruelty of my post-musk twitter feed. you've got to rise above this sort of revenge and hatred but he's doing it for entertainment and probably you've got to imagine for the paper

Interesting to consider this re: a lot of people seeming to view Kendrick as some sort of bulwark against Trump and co. What you're describing suggests what's actually happened is he's shifted into a key very much in line with Trump.
