I guess what I'm saying is that unless you belong to a particular culture or milieu, your chances of interacting with a gun owner or ever seeing a gun will be slim.
I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen one in real life, and probably half those time it was because being a freak in the south was antagonistic to people (even more so decades ago).
The one and only time period I had any concerns about guns was after someone popped off a couple of shots at one of the drugs dealers that lived across the street in seattle, and that was only because I didn't really know what the history was there between the different people so I was bit concerned for a while about being caught in some kind of crossfire since I didn't know if was part of some longstanding beef or if it would turn into one.
