What about gaining control of

a) Canada
b) Greenland
c) The Panana Canal

How serious is he in each case? Has he already forgotten about any of them? What are the chances of any actually happening?

I think at this point he should be taken at face value when he says these things, whether that means he actually gets them is another matter.

I do think the main thing I'd the firing of anyone who prosecuted him or did anything to thwart him and replacing them with loyalists. Kash Patel and Dan Bongino are gonna be running the FBI, I'm gonna say it again, Kash Patel and Dan Fucking Bongo will run the FBI. That is beyond ludicrous. Even taking everything else into consideration I would never have believed that possible. I thought it was a joke at first.

But basically he's appointing laughably under qualified lickspittles to every post with authority. Nobody will prevent him from doing anything - but at what cost? If all the upper echelons of everything are run by cretins will they fall apart, or will the FBI etc carry on despite their leadership?

i wonder if a coup would be possible in the usa, surely some parts of the military and elite are not that keen on all the stuff trump/musk are doing? surely some people are conspiring at this moment, right? but what person or what group of people could this be?

Nah, funding for any 5th columnists has been cut off at source. It cost 100s of billions to manufacture consent for MAFAG. All gone. Chickenless heads.

I don't see it. I can't conceive of there ever being a serious organised resistance to the trained army in a country like the US.

You yourself most likely benefitted from the trickle down from the US taxpayer that supported the socioeconomic context your luxury beliefs about gender, net zero, European security, Israel Vs Palestine, etc could only exist within. It's now some time between 1999 and 2007 again, rejoice!
Are you having a conversation with yourself and referring to yourself in the second person?

Its not inconceivable.the army swear allegience to the constitution and are supposed to defend it. Things would have to go pretty far tho!

I love when people on the right talk about "handouts".
It's like all of these slack-jawed yokels in rural areas that have been shooting themselves in the foot for decades and are finally starting to see the seeds of their idiotic voting, especially by voting for Trump a second time. "Oh, I didn't think that _I_ would be affected, just the people I hate."
got some news for ya, red rural areas generally depend more on handouts than blue urban areas which also tend to be the actual drivers of the economy that make it possible for red rural voters to even have live a life.
I'm also loving all the stories about federal workers that are Trump voters and supporters losing their jobs, or things like a Trump supporter' wife being deported ("oh, no - I just meant for other people to suffer, and for other people to have their families deported")
so much delicious schadenfreude!

it's a pullback to the western hemisphere i think, and looking west towards china and the pacific. a withdrawal from the middle east, europe, africa and south asia. i do think its coherent. something that loads of people were gunning for in the 00s - the end of the american empire, the global policeman

I can't imagine that enough of them are willing to break their conditioning. But this is just my feeling, I got no numbers or knowledge really.

But some people think Trump is defending the constitution, some think he's ripping it up. I can't imagine there being enough of a consensus on that for them to rise up.

we're going to see what happens to the world without that stabilizing / destabilizing force. on the aid side the human suffering will be immense. but beyond that, we'll find out what happens in a place like somalia without the US being involved. same with the new syria.

and what will happen to conflicts around the world with severely reduced humanitarian aid. in goma already this is happening, what happens in a situation like that when the international aid world is no longer able to respond in the same way.

on top of that, what happens in quite stable countries like bangladesh or uganda when the state is no longer able to provide basic services, when things stop getting better in basic human welfare terms.

it's not quite deleting the US off the map. but the direction of travel is clear and everything will reshuffle now. you can't underestimate as well how much trust the last month or so has obliterated. who would ever count on US military support again even under a democrat in the future? after what he's done with ukraine, and the kurds and afghanistan last time around, you'd always be aware of how temporary that kind of military support would be. that's always been a factor with the US but this is exceptional

to summarize - they are pulling back from about half the world and focusing on their hemisphere and the pacific. and at the same time they are remaking the american domestic state and the democratic process

What's weird is after years of assuming they were the good guys with a permanent home on the moral high ground lots of US citizens seem perfectly happy to switch to a position of "might is right and fuck you" and basically don't care if they are the bad guys.
