The great Asian bond dump is a nice new twist this morning

Maybe a ground offensive in Yemen will take all our minds off it

What do my dudes @sus, @Clinamenic, @mvuent, @line b think about this?

On April 20, 2025, the United States may initiate its final steps into authoritarian rule.

That’s the day Donald Trump’s advisory committee is expected to release its findings on whether he should invoke the Insurrection Act — a move that would allow him to deploy the military domestically and allow Trump to impose martial law. (San Francisco Chronicle). Given Hegseth and Noem are the main “advisors”, the conclusion is foregone.

TDS, or actually gonna happen?

It's by an AI person using AI pictures and AI sentences
But it's a fair summary of ideas that real people are circulating. The idea of this 90-day grace period from the inauguration until the shit really hits the fan is that one that's gained a lot of traction. I guess we'll see in a couple of weeks.

For a long time it felt the country was under a spell, narcotic trance, or sleepwalking but the market panic seems to have woken people up a bit

Well, that and law-abiding people being snatched off the street in broad daylight by plainclothes goons and bundled into unmarked vans, &c.

hard to interpret isn't it but assuming that things don't change again it is kind of amazing to see how even trump is disciplined by the financial system. to have a uk prime minister and an american president try to go outside the box and get smacked back into place is quite something and reveals something about how the modern world is constructed.

but then maybe this will last a few days and it will change again

A common remark I heard around the time of the Trussterfuck was that it showed that the concept of "sovereignty" was a total mirage. Inside the EU or outside it, you can't just do whatever you want, the markets be damned.

america never feels like its sleepwalking to me. it feels like relentless bitter contestation, contempt, disgust, vocal opposition. trump feels like power striding across the land. something being unleashed

It's simply reality returning after decades of carefully nurtured insanity. The current outbreak of sanity and renormalisation probably looks insane in comparison, if you're under the spell.
