too many plodding chord progressions and arid textures on way too much of this stuff.

Modern life is arid. The truth which horrifies Luke, Barty and Corpsey. Eventually they will mentally become age 60 before they have even physically registered 60 years of age and they will achieve the gnostic consciousness of this fact.

Ironically for all Luke's banging on about UK being the greatest country ever he's failed to internalise the most pivotal lesson — stiff upper lip and look on the bright side of life. Brits are a very anti-fantastical people.

I've listened to this on loop before. Same sort of vibe as listening to the Ceefax or weather channel stuff.

I went to an air concert in Tokyo circa 2001, no support, over by 10, about 50 quid in

It is possible to be fantastical unlike the French, in a much more genuine way, but one has to do it in a modernistic, dada machinic glam sense.

The aim is not to humanise the machine but mechanise the human.

Observe:

this happened with techstep in england, the human was mechanised via skunk into the dark heart of mechanical paranoia. Unlike the Germans though we could not have too much of the Marc Bolan value set anymore (despite him being British) because we are a nation of mentally ill nutcases. Mysterious satanic fantasies.

Did someone ask him whether he liked cheese and he rattled off a long list that included jarlsberg and cornish cheddar?

What he was saying about creativity with max is very similar to what Mark fell said. As in, he doesn't start with a concept in mind, but instead sets a few things going, tweaks till they get closer to what he wants, then works within those parameters of things he has already decided he likes.

And there's perhaps something in what he says about not wanting to teach. Cos you have to find your own way. Youtube tutorials make us into robots a bit.
