Darned cockwombles.

phenomenal.

that is really brilliant. along with all the other stuff on this thread (which has rejuvenated my interest in hip-hop after a period of falling out of love with it), could we make a case for a real revival in great hip hop over the past couple of years?

Beat knocks on this one. Problem for me is I just find Wiz a bit corny - he's got a weak rapping voice (sounds much better over spacey/laid-back beats on 'OJ and Kush') and his hooks are catchy but also can be pretty inane. That ''I'm on my level'' has pretty much the same little melody as ''blackanyellablackanyellablackanyella''. He looks cool though, think that's actually a big part of his appeal to people - along with the stoner schtick. His album ('Rolling Papers' but NOT domo genesis) could be worth a listen, the tune with Snoop is good, much more 'OJ and Kush'-y (sounds like the beat's by the same producer that did 'Mesmorized' - cow bells and dam-funky synths...) and presumably there'll be some Curren$y guest spots on it too.

Love this Curren$y and Wayne tune man, the Rick Ross and G-Side tunes too. I got a couple of Curren$y's mixtapes/albums and put the whole list on shuffle, I'm pleasantly surprised to see how little there is that I don't like. 'Pilot Talk 2' is great, 'Pilot Talk' and 'This Ain't A Mixtape' also. Don't think I've put up this one before:

'Michael Knight' is number 1 for me, the beat is just tough.

I'm warming to Lil B recently, was watching some of his videos last night mashed and there's something very compulsive about them, even when its just him rapping on a bus for five minutes. Whether or not its just a pretense, his music feels genuinely unhinged. Noz wrote a really good piece on him in which he talks about the link between Lil B's music and the information overload/chaos of the internet. I think there is something about his music that taps into the specific mental unhinging of the obsessive internet user, its all over the place, ADD but also so compulsive. I like that he has a similar quality to Ghostface in that he feels quite freeform, he says things nobody else would.

TWO OLDIES BUT GOODIES:

Not sure I'd agree here. I'm fairly sure Ghostface's lyrics are all written down and planned out quite meticulously, whereas it seems Lil B just chats shit off the top of his head most of the time. At least it sounds that way, I wonder if Lil B does write his lyrics down? In fact, the best Lil B song I've heard is the one with proper rapping that Luka posted a while back, cant remember what its called.

I don't mind some lil B tunes but I would never ever put him in the same league as Ghostface. Anyone here digging the Apollo Kids album btw? I think its excellent.

Yeah I wouldn't really put him in Ghostface's league either to be honest (but then he's trying something very different to Ghostface), I didn't mean that Ghostface writes freeform lyrics so much as the nature of his character/persona means that you get a lot of weird/surreal imagery and slang in Ghostface. 'Freeform' was the wrong word to use, really.

Right, I get you.

Loving these curren$y songs you're posting by the way, gonna have to jump on datpif and grab some of those mixtapes you mentioned.

Also agree with whoever it was above who said this thread has lots of evidence of Hip Hop getting interesting again. Its certainly got me listening a lot more closely to new stuff than I had been.

edit: that lil B tune you just posted is pretty great. I wish he'd rap more really.
