Anyone think there's been a concerted effort to shift blame away from the government and onto the public? I've just seen a clip on Sky News asking whether people are ignoring the social distancing guidelines, everyone interviewed seemed to be following them and everyone in the background seemed to be following them but Sky ran the story anyway as though it was up in the air.

Certainly in the US there a lot of 'new messages' but they are flailing around desperate... saying contradictory things

It's a hoax, it will go away
It's not a hoax but Trump dealt with it perfectly and early
He was slow to react - cos China lied
Cos of impeachment
Its not his job, it's the states' so it doesn't matter that he did fuck all
It's a hoax... I think, er, which now?

I don't doubt there are idiots putting others at risk, but I get the impression people like Piers Morgan are really trying to whip up the outrage and make the story bigger than it is.

But basically they're saying we've done everything we can and it would have been perfect but some working class people in Scotland had a bbq with their friends and that's fucked it completely and you're all gonna die.

Yeah course, I thought this observation has been made again and again by pretty much everyone on the thread

The Guardian keeps running pictures of the police menacing people sitting on their own in sunny parks, with no one else anywhere near them. This tells a story. The police are pushing for a lockdown which vastly exceeds what is necessary because, as mentioned earlier, the police have an ideal state, of country as a prison in which all prisoners are consigned to their cells.

that is, of course, a load of horseshit. most cops I know just want to spend their days cursing around in their cars and not have to get out in crappy weather to chase a purse snatcher. seriously, I get the whole surveillance state/big brother/authoritarian clampdown fantasy but move it to the conspiracy theory thread.

sorry luka, that was a bit harsh, just woke up and still a bit hazy. should have prefaced it with "I'm not sure I'd go that far..." instead of calling it horseshit. bigger point stands, tho.

I'm not quite sure what you're getting at Leo tbh. Today in the park there was a helicopter circling and on the ground a policeman telling everyone they were taking pictures and no one is allowed in the park unless they are exercising.

Now the difference, in terms of risk between doing sit ups in the park and sitting in the park is what exactly?

The reason is that prison is the model. It must be punitive. If you're sitting in the sun you might be enjoying yourself. There is a link being made between pleasure and infection. The kind of purity which is being invoked to beat the virus has a moral dimension. We must suffer to purge ourselves.

I've a theory about why they might be doing this. Rumour has it that there's a virus about that, among other things, destroys the part of your brain that runs breathing while you sleep, so you can't sleep without a ventilator. Turns out staying at home prevents the spread of this same virus.

They reckon this virus uses humans to propagate and perpetuate itself, regardless of the long term cost to it's host, but that's probably tinfoil level conspiracy theory.

The vibrations and energies you are feeling right now is a mass awakening. Many of those who were teetering on the edge between being asleep and awake have gently tipped into being fully awake. Old schoolers are doing their best to maintain the centuries old status quo while others are directing their attention toward the New Way. Rather than arguing your point, please realize and embrace the fact that each one of you will move through this the best way you know. And, regardless of where you are in the process or how challenging this may be, you are being loved and supported by The Universe. ~

all I can say is that's quite the opposite of what I see here, and of police I know personally. are those people in your park demonstrating adequate social distancing? people can be pretty thick headed, they actually closed lots of parks here because people were hanging out closely in groups as if nothing was different than normal, maybe the cops are trying to head that off.

we aren't living in China.
